Trump and His Supporters Willing to ‘Lie, Steal, Cheat’ and ‘Kill’ for Political Purposes

August 31st, 2018 8:00 AM

Just when you think the media couldn’t sink any lower in their view of Donald Trump and his supporters they go lower. In the past month we’ve seen CNN’s Don Lemon insult Trump supporters as “people who will lie, steal, and cheat, lie to their mother” for their own political purposes.

MSNBC national affairs analyst John Heilemann posited: “How many people in the Republican Party think that it would be okay for Donald Trump to dissolve their own grandparents?”

As for Trump himself, liberal hosts, reporters and pundits have accused him of being a “despot” that was inciting “violence” against journalists that will leave “blood on his hands.” One New York Times columnist even suggested Trump would “like to” murder his political foes.

And speaking of the Times – they just hired a new columnist who, among other incendiary comments, once tweeted “Are white people genetically predisposed to burn faster in the sun, thus logically being only fit to live underground like groveling goblins?” So much for the tolerant left.

The following are the worst liberal outbursts over the past month from lefty journalists:

[LANGUAGE WARNING]

Trump Supporters Would “Lie to Their Mother” and Let Him “Kill” Their Grandparents

“We’re up against people who will lie, steal, and cheat, lie to their own mother, lie to themselves about what’s right for this country, about truth and about facts. If they will ignore any misgiving, any terrible deed, any awful saying they will just ignore it for their own political purpose. They will ignore the bigotry and the pettiness and the childishness about what Donald Trump said about me and LeBron James and others just because they want to gain some sort of political clout or they want a few more dollars in tax money. At what cost?”
— CNN host Don Lemon on CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time, August 6.

“I would like a pollster to ask this question: How many people in the Republican Party think that it would be okay for Donald Trump to dissolve their own grandparents? I’m virtually certain that if it was a Donald Trump-related question you’d get like 10 percent that would be like ‘Donald Trump has the power to do whatever he wants – including kill my [grand] parents.’”
— MSNBC national affairs analyst John Heilemann on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, August 16.

“Despot” Trump Inciting “Violence” Against Journalists

New York Times columnist Bret Stephens: “I think when the President goes to his rallies and starts screaming about fake news, the most he wants is for people to give CNN’s Jim Acosta a middle finger....But if 1,000 people are giving Jim Acosta the middle finger, some subset of that, maybe ten people....are going to take it to the next step....We live in the age of the active shooter and the president is goading them. He is inciting them....The blood will be on his hands the moment some whack-job thinks that he’s carrying out the instructions of a president and goes into a newsroom like the one behind us or the one in my news organization or yours and murdered people.”...
MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson: “We’re going to have a Charlie Hebdo situation here, without question. Without question. It is going to happen. Because of the behavior of this president.”
MSNBC Live, August 6.

“He [Donald Trump] is really trying to incite violence against reporters. How else can you interpret it? If they’re the enemy, you’re supposed to stamp out the enemy....The good news is, Don, and you’re one of this. You’re part of history now....I think, 50 years from now, people are going to look at this as great journalism going on here and who stood up to a President acting like a despot and who held the President accountable, and you’re going to have a who’s who of great journalists who are working at The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, etc.”
— Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley to host Don Lemon on CNN Tonight, August 3.

“Honestly, it felt like we weren’t in America anymore. I don’t know how to put it any more plainly than that. Americans should not be treating their fellow Americans in this way....When the President, during the campaign, referred to us as ‘dishonest media,’ ‘the disgusting media,’ ‘liars,’ ‘scum,’ ‘thieves’ and so on and then he rolled that right into the Oval Office and started calling us ‘fake news’ and the ‘enemy of the people.’ He is whipping these crowds up into a frenzy to the point where they really want to come after us. We have these bike rack-like barriers around the press cage, as we call it, to protect us essentially from people who might take things too far.”
— CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta describing supporters at Donald Trump rally in Tampa, as aired on HLN’s S.E. Cupp Unfiltered, August 1.

“Stalin” Trump Stoking a Worldwide “Hate Movement” Against the Press

“The President, with his back up against the wall, is saying journalists are dangerous, sick, enemies of the people....He’s shouting some of these attacks nowadays. And there’s certainly been a newfound focus on how he whips up his crowds against the press corps. More and more I think ‘hate movement’ is the proper term for what’s going on. President Trump is not just telling his fans to ignore what we report. He’s telling people we are the enemy. Trump and some of his allies are promoting a hate movement against the American press.”
— Host Brian Stelter on CNN’s Reliable Sources, August 5.

“I do think that he [Donald Trump] has very deliberately set up the press as the enemy of the people. I don’t feel that I am the enemy of the people. And it’s not benign....You know, this is something that we first heard from Joseph Stalin. This is very dangerous. It undercuts democracy.”
— NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, July 30.

Co-Host Joy Behar: “Trump is debasing our press on a regular basis and telling people it’s fake. And it’s – metastasizing around the world. This year, Egypt, Vietnam. Belarus, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and others have passed laws and fined news outlets after accusing them of spreading false information. And then you read about people who live in Canada and who live in France and etcetera who are afraid that this president is so out of control and so on the wrong page about every single thing that he does every single day they’re afraid for them also. He’s not just a menace in this country is my point.”...
Co-host Sunny Hostin: “These are the acts in my opinion, of a dictator. Dictators attack the press routinely and we’re seeing it in this country.”
— ABC’s The View, August 1.

Trump Would Certainly “Like” to Murder People

New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg: “He’s [Donald Trump] a sort of junior player in a block of authoritarian countries.....He’s part of the block that includes Vladimir Putin, [Philippines President Rodrigo] Duterte, he’s you know, he’s kind of part of kind of an Axis Power.”...
Host Katy Tur: “Well he’s not rounding people up and murdering them without any – you know – due process.”
Goldberg: “He’d certainly like to.”
— MSNBC’s MTP Daily, August 17.

Banning Sarah Huckabee Sanders to Support Free Speech?

Clip of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders: “While we certainly support freedom of the press, we also support freedom of speech and we think that those things go hand in hand.”...
Host Nicolle Wallace: “You know, we’re not going to air that anymore. Let’s make that the last Sarah Huckabee Sanders clip ever aired at four o’clock. Yup, that’s it. You know, it makes me sweat. That is vile! It makes me sweat. This is someone who complains about a restaurant that exercises their First Amendment right to kick out someone they think is obliterating democratic norms. Seriously it made me sweat.”
— MSNBC’s Deadline White House, August 1

Liberal Bias Is a Conservative “Creation”

CBN News chief political analyst David Brody: “I think one of the best things going in Donald Trump’s favor, we all know this, is the mainstream media....The truth of the matter is, 62 percent think the media’s biased.”...
Meet the Press host Chuck Todd: “Well, the conservative echo chamber created [that] environment....It’s been a tactic and a tool of the Roger Ailes-created chamber. So, let’s not pretend it is not anything other than that....It was a creation. It was a campaign tactic. It’s not based in much fact.”
— NBC’s Meet the Press, August 26.

“One of the mistakes we in the mainstream media made during when these false allegations against us for being biased for 40 years happened is we started believing, ‘oh, maybe we are biased. And wait we can’t look biased.’ So we created a lot of false equivalency issues.”
— Host Chuck Todd on MSNBC’s MTP Daily, August 30.

Murder Victim a “Distraction,” Some “Girl in Iowa” That Fox News Cares About

“I’m sure we’ll hear what he [Donald Trump] has to say about this [Michael Cohen plea deal, Paul Manafort verdict] at his – his rally, but Fox News is talking about, you know, a girl [murder victim Mollie Tibbetts] in Iowa and not this, right?”
— Fordham University Professor Christina Greer and frequent MSNBC guest dismissively referring to missing University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts whose body was found that day, as aired on MSNBC’s The Beat, August 21. An illegal immigrant confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Tibbetts.

“It’s this kind of racialized distraction that the right does, right? The day that we find out Manafort’s in trouble, Fox News runs a story about Mollie Tibbetts.”
— The Root.com politics editor and MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson on MSNBC’s AM Joy, August 25.

Those Stupid Socialist-Hating Rubes Don’t Know What’s Good For Them

Host Stephanie Ruhle: “You’re talking about a nuanced powerful argument. But lots of people don’t get into the argument. They just go, ‘Oh my gosh, socialist? I can’t have that! It’s going to take all my money!”
CNBC contributor Ron Insana: “And I will tell you if the entire Democratic Party gets branded as socialists successfully going into the midterms or the 2020 presidential, they lose.”
Ruhle: “Even if those are winning policies? It’s such a difficult term.”
MSNBC Live, August 3.

McCain’s Unforgivable Sin: Picking a Conservative Running Mate

“I guess there are some out there who could argue that the choosing of [Sarah] Palin and legitimizing that voice, legitimizing that brand of politics, that reality show brand of politics, you could draw a straight line from that to the election of Donald Trump.”
— Host Katy Tur on MSNBC Live, August 27.

“Is there any fault at Senator John McCain for bringing someone like Sarah Palin into the mainstream of national politics? I think some critics would look at it and say, in bringing her on as his vice presidential candidate or nominee, he legitimized that part of the Republican party.”
— Host Ayman Mohyeldin on MSNBC Live, August 26.

“No campaign decision drew more criticism than his ill-considered selection of a running mate in Sarah Palin, whom he hardly knew and who went so far as to charge Mr. Obama with ‘palling around with terrorists.’”
New York Times August 25 editorial page opinion piece: “John McCain, a Scarred but Happy Warrior.”

Do What the Framers Would Have Wanted and Impeach Trump!

“If now is when we can’t talk about impeachment, when can we talk about impeachment? The President was implicated in a crime, and I can’t imagine a scenario that is – could be any more ripe for a serious discussion by responsible adults. That’s exactly what the Framers would have wanted.”
— SiriusXM Senior Director of Progressive Programming Zerlina Maxwell on MSNBC’s Hardball, August 23.

Always Assume Trump Is Lying

“Is it time for newsrooms to think of new ways to convey Trump’s lack of credibility?....Because he says so many things that are bogus....He tells us all these lies, he spreads all these falsehoods....but he’s done nothing to earn your trust and everything to squander it. The President is constantly lying and spreading conspiracy theories everyday....Should there be a bug in the corner of the screen that says, ‘Warning, the President’s probably misleading you again’?”
— Host Brian Stelter on CNN’s Reliable Sources, August 26.

“I’m done being Talmudic about ‘Is it a lie, what’s his intent?’ Who could know intent with this man? He lies every minute! He changes his story second to second. We should just say, ‘He’s lying, folks.’ Start from that premise. He’s a liar, okay? If you can prove he’s not telling a lie, great. We should fact-check him backwards maybe, see if anything he’s telling us is true.”
Baltimore Sun media critic David Zurawik on CNN’s Reliable Sources, August 26.

Racist Trump Is President of the “White Supremacist” States of America

“This [Donald Trump] is the man who’s attacking the NFL constantly. This is a man that stands on black people’s necks so that he can appear taller to white people. White nationalism and white entitlement were at the basis for his campaign. We don’t need anymore evidence – the jury is in....We know that this is a white supremacist country, and we have to deal with that every day.”
— Former MSNBC host Toure on MSNBC’s AM Joy, August 19.

She Should Fit Right In at The Times

“Dumbass fucking white people marking up the internet with their opinions like dogs pissing on fire hydrants”...
“Are white people genetically predisposed to burn faster in the sun, thus logically being only fit to live underground like groveling goblins”...
“#CancelWhitePeople”...
“Oh man it’s kind of sick how much joy I get out of being cruel to old white men.”
“@RepDanMode White people have stopped breeding. You’ll all go extinct soon. This was my plan all along.”
— 2014 tweets from former Verge.com tech writer and new New York Times editorial board writer Sarah Jeong. The Times hired Jeong on August 1 and after an uproar over the tweets released a statement that while they don’t “condone” the tweets they would still keep Jeong citing her as “an important voice for the editorial board moving forward.”

Republicans Love Racist Russia

“I think the dirty little secret about the Republicans and their new found love for baseball, apple pie, and Mother Russia is that it’s about race. Last year Ann Coulter tweeted, ‘In 20 years Russia will be the only country that is recognizably European.’ As far back as 2013, Matt Drudge called Putin ‘the leader of the free world.’ David Duke described Russia as ‘the key to white survival.’ Today’s Republicans do not like the melting pot. And Russia? That pot don’t melt. Russia is one of the last places on Earth to say ‘Fuck diversity! We’re here, we’re white, get used to it.”
— Host Bill Maher on HBO’s Real Time, August 3.

The Great Depression? Nothing Compared to the Donald Trump “Crisis”

“I think we are in a crisis that is the third great crisis in American history. More than the Depression. First, of course, the Revolutionary War and whether we would even become a country, then the Civil War, people usually say then the Depression. I don’t think the Depression got at what is most fundamental about this country – it was economic – but I don’t think it threatened the rule of law as we have now.”
— Host Bill Maher on HBO’s Real Time, August 24.
