Chris Hayes: Unlike Hillary, Trump 'Committed a Whole Bunch of Crimes'

June 10th, 2019 4:02 PM

Friday night, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes made some unusually ridiculous statements surrounding the ongoing push by the liberal media to indict President Trump. Hayes began by showing a clip of Fox News host Sean Hannity criticizing recent comments from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claiming she wanted to see Trump “in prison”:

Based on no actual crime, she [Nancy Pelosi] wants a political opponent locked up in prison? That happens in banana republics, beyond despicable behavior and by the way, they would literally turn in many ways the USA into a country we would no longer recognize.

Hayes jumped on this quote with utter derision: “The best part is that he uses ‘locked up’ with no hint or irony.” This was in reference to Trump supporters, during the 2016 campaign, accusing Hillary Clinton of breaking the law when she mishandled classified information on her private email server. Hayes then referenced Orwell’s 1984, ‘with no hint or irony’, a novel typically demonstrative of the dangers of socialism:

Now, I will say, that the term Orwellian gets thrown around way too much, but it really is earned in this case. This is from 1984: “The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.”

He continued: “There is overwhelming evidence that the President, unlike Hillary Clinton, has committed a whole bunch of crimes.” What are these crimes and why weren’t they discovered in the Muller report? Well, Hayes explained; “I mean, let’s remember this thing. He was effectively named as an unindicted co-conspirator, Individual-1…”

Ironically, while hurling accusations of hypocrisy at Hannity over wanting to ‘lock up’ Clinton, Hayes ignored his own hypocrisy in accusing the President of being guilty of “a whole bunch of crimes” without evidence. Perhaps he should look in the mirror before pointing a finger of blame at someone else.

SEAN HANNITY: Based on no actual crime, she wants a political opponent locked up in prison? That happens in banana republics, beyond despicable behavior and by the way, they would literally turn in many ways the USA into a country we would no longer recognize.

CHRIS HAYES:  The best part is that he uses “locked up” with no hint of irony. Now, I will say, that the term Orwellian gets thrown around way too much, but it really is earned in this case. This is from 1984: “The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.” Then there’s Hannity’s claim embedded in there that the President has committed, and I’m quoting him here, “No actual crimes.” In fact, there is overwhelming evidence that the President, unlike Hillary Clinton, has committed a whole bunch of crimes. I mean, let’s remember this thing. He was effectively named as an unindicted co-conspirator, Individual-1, in the illegal campaign finance scheme that he according to the filings in federal court that he directed and coordinated with his former fixer, Michael Cohen who is now serving a federal prison sentence in part for the crime. That’s before we even get to the Muller report. Volume two of that 448-page report lays out a dozen different instances in which the President attempted to obstruct justice and a crime for which a thousand former federal prosecutors say he would’ve been charged if he were not the sitting President.
