COVER-UP: Morning Joe Bulldozes Biden's 'Junkie' Comments

August 7th, 2020 10:53 AM

It must be nice to be a Democrat in today’s politics, knowing that every single stupid thing you say will be conveniently bulldozed over by your leftist media allies before it can hurt you, while the comments of your opponents will be blown up to magnificent proportions. Joe Biden was the latest Democrat to receive this service from the compliant press on Friday, as MSNBC's Morning Joe immediately deflected criticism of the 2020 candidate by attacking President Trump instead.

The Biden-backing morning show desperately attempted to excuse a pair of racially-charged gaffes the presumptive Democratic nominee made while talking to black and Hispanic journalists on Tuesday. First, when asked by CBS's Errol Barnett about taking a cognitive test, Biden ranted: "No, I haven't taken a test. Why the hell would I take a test? Come on, man, that's like saying before you got on this program you take a test whether you're taking cocaine or not? Are you a junkie?" Then later, telling NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro that "unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is incredibly diverse."

Biden got plenty of backlash for those comments, as he deserved. Calling Barnett, a black reporter, a "junkie" is obviously racist and should be condemned, as well as suggesting black people are a monolith that lack diversity. But somebody did not send the memo to Morning Joe, since they buried his comments under a wave of "orange man bad":

WILLIE GEIST: Vice President Joe Biden trying to make some point asking Errol Barnett if he should have taken a cocaine test before that interview.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: What point is he trying to make?

GEIST: I wish I could help you.

SCARBOROUGH: You could just say yes or no there.

GEIST: "No, I don't need to take a test." So Joe Biden, that was a couple days ago. Now today clarifying remarks he made after suggesting the Latino was more diverse than the black community. President Trump wrote about these comments on Twitter saying, "Joe Biden just lost the entire African-American community." What a dumb thing to say.

SCARBOROUGH: Mr. Charlottesville said he's lost the entire -- did he really say that, Willie?

GEIST: He wrote it down.

SCARBOROUGH: I was working on our science project yesterday. Did he really say that? The man who had David Duke praising him for his moral equivalency with Nazis and protesters, did he really say that he lost the African-American community?

They completely glossed over the offensiveness and bizarre nature of Biden's remarks in their rush to find a way to turn the controversy into an attack on Trump. But it really shouldn’t be surprising, since Morning Joe has repeatedly buried Biden’s “racial jungle” comments, his insinuation that if you don’t vote for him "you ain’t black” and countless other gaffes and comments.

Well done media, you’ve come to the rescue of your Democrat bosses again, setting your credibility on fire in the process.

ERROL BARNETT: Please clarify, specifically, have you taken a cognitive test?

JOE BIDEN: No, I haven't taken a test. Why the hell would I take a test? Come on, man, that's like saying before you got on this program you take a test whether you're taking cocaine or not? Are you a junkie?

BARNETT: What do you say to president trump who brags about his test and makes your mental state an issue for voters?

BIDEN: If he can't figure out the difference between an elephant and a lion, I don't know what the hell he's talking about.

GEIST: No, I don't need to take a test. So Joe Biden, that was a couple days ago. Now today clarifying remarks he made after suggesting the Latino was more diverse than the black community. President Trump wrote about these comments on Twitter saying Joe Biden just lost the entire African-American community. What a dumb thing to say.

GEIST: He wrote it down.

I was working on our science project yesterday. Did he really say that the man who had David Duke praising him for his moral equivalency with Nazis and protesters did he really say that he lost the African-American community.

GEIST: This is also the guy who a few days ago said to Jonathan Swan of the life and legacy of civil rights icon John Lewis, he didn't come to my inauguration. That was his assessment, said I have done more for black people than besides, perhaps he said, Abraham Lincoln.
