Biden's Response to Female Reporter’s Question on Latino Running Mate: ‘Are You Available’?

August 8th, 2019 12:02 PM

Telemundo´s coverage of the El Paso massacre included a softball interview to presidential candidate, Joe Biden, that began, of course, with a kiss, was framed in the harshest anti-Trump light possible, and ended with an opportunity for Biden to pander to Hispanics.

Take a look at Uncle Joe in action:

VANESSA HAUC, CORRESPONDENT, TELEMUNDO: If you had to choose a running mate today, who are you thinking about?

JOE BIDEN, 2020 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Are you available?

HAUC: Hahaha

The interview, conducted by correspondent Vanessa Hauc, began with a question that framed President Trump as having a role in the mass shooting due to “anti-Latino” rhetoric, and ended with Biden contemplating a Latino for running mate- clearly a play to put Julián Castro on the ticket one way or the other, just as in 2016. Let us, for a moment, set aside the innuendo and weird body language between interviewer and interviewee. Biden´s answer to the question of considering a Hispanic running mate was as vague as can be, obviously choosing his words so as to please the Telemundo audience in this “exclusive” interview as he stated that “Well, of course I would”. End of conversation.

VANESSA HAUC, CORRESPONDENT, TELEMUNDO: If you had to choose a running mate today, who are you thinking about?

JOE BIDEN, 2020 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Are you available?

HAUC: Hahaha

BIDEN: No, look. There are a lot of really qualified people running in the race but I can think of at least six or seven people, four of whom are women who in fact do not, aren´t in the race who´re totally qualified to be president.

HAUC: Do you think about a Latino?

BIDEN: Well of course I would. There´s no reason why that would not be the case.
