A former Dow Jones CEO has decided to launch his own news media startup aimed at handling “misinformation” on social media. Because the world needed another one.

Former Dow Jones CEO William Lewis launched “The News Movement” to tackle what he reportedly saw as a “global crisis of misinformation,” according to Bloomberg News. The focus of the organization appeared to be  a social media audience. “The News Movement will aim to deliver trustworthy and objective information to mass audiences on social media, where increasing numbers are finding their news,” Lewis said, according to Bloomberg.

The News Movement would also reportedly include two other former Dow Jones employees, Group Chief Product and Technology Officer for Dow Jones Ramin Beheshti and Chief of Staff in the Dow Jones Risk & Compliance Eleanor Breen. Beheshti will serve as the chief customer officer and Breen will serve chief of operations. Kamal Ahmed, the previous editorial director of the BBC, will join the team as well.

The organization does not plan to publish its first investigations until “later this year,” according to Bloomberg. “We know that audience habits are changing and that many millions of people in America, U.K. and around the world want objective, easy-to-access news where they are, on social media and the major digital channels they love,” Ahmed reportedly told Bloomberg in a statement.

Bloomberg did not report if the organization would focus on producing its own news stories or act as a fact-checking service. However, the left’s view of “misinformation” online has often just referred to conservative ideas.

For example, Facebook unpublished the page for LifeSiteNews after the group posted an article titled “COVID Vaccines Can Be Deadly for Some.” Twitter also censored Doctors for Covid Ethics for after the group tweeted about “vaccine dangers.” YouTube recently deleted a webinar hosted by Frontline Covid-19 Critical Care that criticized the World Health Organization’s dismissal of the drug Ivermectin as a treatment for Covid-19.
