Pop Has-Beens Attack Romney for 30-yr-old Dog Incident

It’s kind of sad, really – a novelty pop band with a lone hit 30 years ago trying to make political hay of an incident of about the same vintage. But Devo doesn’t have much else to do these days, and the left will welcome any help in its efforts to slam presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Famous for their 1980 hit single “Whip It,” Devo just revealed their plan to release an Anti-Romney song later this month to Rolling Stone. Titled “Don’t Roof Rack Me, Bro! (Remember Seamus),” the song references the now infamous anecdote that detailed how Romney once strapped his dog’s crate on the roof of a car for a family trip -- almost 30 years ago. The Boston Globe first reported on it back in 2007.

Devo founder Gerald V. Casale is a public supporter of the Dogs Against Romney group, has started his own Remember Seamus campaign, and even involved himself in the making of a smart phone game called “The Crate Escape: Seamus Unleashed” that is yet to be released.

This is just the latest and one of the most humorous cases of entertainment industry lefty activism. Quasi-celebrities are more than willing to exert whatever influence they may still have while funding progressive causes.

The inequality of campaign donations has become a sore spot among Democrats, but with Hollywood, mainstream media, and even the majority of the music industry on their side – the playing field will never be completely even.

Still, it would be nice if some has-been recorded a ditty about President Obama eating dogs in the past. Are The Motels still around?
