If this week’s Impeachment drama hasn’t been exciting enough for you, let Hollywood transport you back to a time when impeachment trials had actual drama, even actual crimes.

Hollywood execs dropped big news on Jan. 22 about their upcoming crime series on the Bill Clinton impeachment, announcing one of the shows newly-signed, big name lefty actors.

FX’s upcoming “Impeachment: American Crime Story” announced that Billy On The Street star comedian Billy Eichner will play the role of Matt Drudge, the owner of the news aggregate site that broke the news of Bill Clinton’s White House affair with then-intern Monica Lewinsky.

Hollywood site Variety provided a quick history of Drudge’s role in breaking the Monica Lewinsky scandal, stating, “Drudge learned that Newsweek was sitting on a story by investigative reporter Michael Isikoff about the affair at the heart of the scandal.” His site “first broke the news” in January 1998.

The politically-themed season is the third installment of mega-producer Ryan Murphy’s “American Crime Story” series, the first of which “followed the principle players in the O.J. Simpson trial” while the second season “detailed the death of Gianni Versace at the hands of spree killer Andrew Cunanan.

The FX limited series is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.

The comedian rounds out a cast list including Booksmart’s Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky, Clive Owen as the former president, Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones. Sarah Burgess will write the story as well as executive produce along with Murphy, and Monica Lewinsky herself is one of the producers.

Eichner, who also voiced meerkat Timon in 2019’s photorealistic remake of “The Lion King” is no stranger to working with Ryan Murphy. Eichner appeared in both seasons seven and eight of Murphy’s horror series “American Horror Story.”

In between his posts skewering GOP senators involved in the current Donald Trump impeachment, Eichner announced the news Wednesday, Jan. 22 via Twitter, claiming, “Can finally share this with the world. Truly an honor to join @MsSarahPaulson, @BeanieFeldstein, Clive Owen and more in American Crime Story: Impeachment.”

“American Crime Story: Impeachment” begins filming in March, and Murphy hopes it will air sometime around election day 2020. Considering a majority of lefties are working on the project we pray the historical re-visionism won’t dip into any anti-Trump propaganda. But don’t hold your breath.
