MRC’s Bozell, Schneider Blast Soros Empire for Funding Radical Pro-Hamas Groups

October 16th, 2023 4:52 PM

MRC President Brent Bozell and MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider rebuked the Soros empire for financing groups that have voiced support for the terrorist group Hamas.

In an Oct. 12 letter to Open Society Foundations (OSF) founder George Soros and his son — OSF Chairman Alex Soros — Bozell and Schneider called on both George and Alex Soros to disclose all of their pro-Hamas grantees, publicly disavow them and terminate all funding to those groups. “Given that your donations have gone straight into the bloodstream of those who seek to exterminate Jews and push Israel into the sea, it is clear that you have an even greater duty to purge yourselves of your transgressions,” Bozell and Schneider wrote.

MRC Business recently exposed how George Soros funneled $550,000 to radical pro-Hamas group Al-Shabaka between 2017 and 2021 alone. Hamas had launched thousands of rockets on Israel Oct. 7 before proceeding to rape women, murder civilians and kidnap children and the elderly. The attacks resulted in at least 1,400 people killed in Israel. “Breaching” the “boundaries” of Israel’s borders, claimed Al-Shabaka in a statement, “expands the Palestinian imaginary for possibilities of both resistance and collective freedom.”

MRC Business also exposed a horrific 2007 pro-Hamas op-ed written by George Soros himself calling on America and Israel to “open the door to Hamas.”

Dear Sirs,

As the leaders of one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the world, we are sure you are aware of President Joe Biden’s statement condemning the recent terror attacks against Israel and its people. The atrocities committed by the barbaric Hamas regime and the gleeful display of their war crimes shocks the conscience.

President Biden later supplemented his initial statement to criticize those who either cheer on Hamas or remain silent while the ghoulish butchers of Gaza decide the ultimate fate of their Jewish hostages.

“Silence is complicity,” President Biden told Jewish leaders on Wednesday. Those who hide in the shadows rather than publicly stand with Israel bear partial blame for the atrocities.

In light of all of this, your silence is deafening.

Contrary to your reticence, President Barack Obama also recently said, “All Americans should be horrified and outraged by the brazen terrorist attacks on Israel and the slaughter of innocent civilians.” An hour later, President Bill Clinton added, “I condemn the horrific terrorist assault carried out by Hamas in Israel.”

Presidents Donald J. Trump and George W. Bush did not take as long to respond, the former quickly rebuking the Hamas terrorist organization’s deplorable actions as a “disgrace” and the latter “strongly” condemning the “heinous terrorist attacks on Israel,” and both supporting Israel’s unequivocal “right to defend itself.”

These forceful statements caused us to wonder how an organization like yours that claims to champion “democratic solutions” and advance “human dignity” would go underground as Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, fights for its very survival. We then discovered the reason.

Our preliminary investigation has already uncovered multiple pro-Hamas grantees funded by you and the Open Society Foundations. Millions and millions of your “charitable” dollars have flowed into these organizations, financing their filth. Examples include:

  • Middle East Children's Alliance

“TODAY! We are witnessing the people of Gaza rising up to respond to decades of Israeli settler colonial violence. The US govt bears responsibility for its political, economic & military support of this brutal apartheid regime. Join us to stand in solidarity with Palestine.”

  • OpenDemocracy (UK)

“Resistance rockets fired from the Gaza Strip provide a necessary counter-discourse … [and] are a radical declaration of existence and unmediated expression of self-determination.”

  • Dream Defenders

“As ever, we stand with the Palestinian people fighting for freedom from apartheid.”

  • Middle East Policy Network (Al-Shabaka)

“Al-Shabaka rejects the Israeli regime’s colonial borders that work to fragment and ultimately erase Palestinian existence. Breaching these boundaries expands the Palestinian imaginary for possibilities of both resistance and collective freedom.”

  • Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy

“As the international community is once again calling for [Israel’s] right to defend itself, we must remember who is the oppressor and who the oppressed.”

  • Institute for Middle East Understanding

“Palestinians haven't had a day of peace, safety, or freedom since Israel began illegally invading, stealing, and occupying Palestinian land over 75 years ago. Ending Israel's oppression of Palestinians guarantees a safe and just future for all.”

  • Jewish Voice for Peace

“We all deserve liberation, safety, and equality. The only way to get there is by uprooting the sources of the violence.”

Given that your donations have gone straight into the bloodstream of those who seek to exterminate Jews and push Israel into the sea, it is clear that you have an even greater duty to purge yourselves of your transgressions.

Therefore, we call on you to disclose each of your pro-Hamas grantees, publicly disavow every one of them, terminate all your funding to them, claw back previously-transferred donations, and end your war on Israel and the Jewish people worldwide.

We have reported extensively on your funding goals, your sophisticated networks of radicals, and your plans to upend American values. We hope that we might finally find common ground when it comes to Hamas.

Now is the time to show that the Soros family and your foundations can do something all decent people can agree on, that terrorism, butchery and depravity must not be countenanced. If this is something beyond your reach, we assure you that it is not beyond the reach of the IRS to determine whether the Open Society Foundations are meeting their legal obligations to be allowed to continue operating in America. We await your response as we stand with Israel.

Sincerely,

L. Brent Bozell III

Founder and President
