On Letterman, Robert Duvall Zings Stephen Colbert: ‘Not That Funny’

Stephen Colbert will replace the retiring David Letterman next year, but Colbert’s smart-ass, ridiculing of conservatives act doesn’t impress legendary actor Robert Duvall. On Thursday’s Late Show, as his segment with Letterman was wrapping up, over audience applause Duvall pressed Letterman: “Why are you retiring? That guy taking over’s not that funny. That guy’s not that funny. Sorry, maybe your friend.”

Letterman ignored Duvall’s critique on the show delayed until 12:30 AM EDT by CBS’s Thursday Night Football, instead noting they forgot to run the clip from the movie Duvall was on the show to promote – and so viewers then saw a scene from The Judge.

In fact, it was Leslie Moonves, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS, who selected Comedy Central’s Colbert to replace Letterman as host of the Late Show.

Duvall (IMDb page) is known as a rare Hollywood Republican, if not a conservative, having campaigned with John McCain and Sarah Palin in 2008.
