NewsBusters Podcast: Should Election News Revolve Around Pollsters?

News networks, newspaper and polling sites were embarrassed when the makers of the Wedgewood Poll admitted they were fakers. The polls weren’t real, but were being spread by The New York Times and MS NOW’s Ali Velshi, among others. Isn’t it  time to be skeptical of polls and how they’re promoted by the Democrat-touting media?

NewsBusters Associate Editor Nick Fondacaro and MRC Video Senior Content Creator Nick Kangadis discussed this and other political issues.

Earlier this month, Velshi featured a Wedgewood Poll showing Democrat Jocelyn Benson with a 10-point lead over Republican John James in the Michigan gubernatorial race. In addition to The Times and MS NOW, scores of media outlets and prominent poll aggregators cited Wedgewood polling data, including; Newsweek, Decision Desk HQ, and Mediaite.

Wedgewood is the second polling company of late to admit its findings are made up. In August, Median Polling Strategies reported that democratic socialist Francesca Hong held a commanding lead in the Wisconsin governor’s Democrat primary. Then they called their fake polls a "social experiment."

Speaking of social experiments, the riots in France are distressing the elitist media. Both CNN and MSNBC accused Donald Trump of fear mongering over it. He’s clearly blaming massive immigration from Muslim countries. Yes, the networks that obsessed for four years over January 6 don’t want anyone using riots as a campaign issue.

NPR’s news anchor uttered this sentence: “The French far right is capitalizing on what is described as the SEEMING failure of President Macron’s government to keep order.”  A CNN anchor reported "demonstrations which political leaders have stressed were mostly peaceful," and added by the way, 2000 were detained and at least two deaths were linked to the protests.

In our Worst of the Week poll, we’ve included MS NOW morning host Stephanie Ruhle complaining Trump "said in the last 24 hours, without any evidence, that migrants, jihadists, and communists are the ones responsible for these riots." She claimed Trump’s war in Iran caused the riots – gas prices, you know. It would be easier to claim there weren't jihad-supporters in the streets if you left all the Palestinian flags out of your videos and photographs.

Also on the ballot, Keith Olbermann recorded himself claiming Donald Trump is a quote, “Russian-owned mass murderer.” And on PBS's Washington Week with The Atlantic, their writer Ashley Parker ranted about black and brown people might have to worry about being gunned down in a parking lot outside a polling place by ICE. PBS, for the “public.”

The View was on their usual bender this week, first attacking commentator Stephen A. Smith for meeting with Trump. Sunny Hostin called the president the "Criminal In Chief." On their Behind The Table podcast with the whole cast, they talked about Hostin's weirdly damaging softball to Kamala Harris, asking her if there were differences between her and Biden. She said no. Hostin is still upset: “I thought it was a gift…I was looking at his numbers, his approval ratings were so low, and I thought she's got a distance herself from him.” Ana Navarro added: "We went into commercial break right after and her staff ran because they knew immediately that she needed to come back and do damage control. Which she tried, but it never -- She didn’t control the damage."

Finally, at a panel discussion, longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson offered a patronizing answer on Shane Gillis's monologue on the show joking that women "dress like whores" at the gym. Thompson said "if he were to come back, I'm sure we would have a conversation of like, 'How do you think that went?'" Like a little kid. "I would just sit him down and be like, 'So what do you think we could change there, pal?'" Pal? Now imagine trying to talk down to a black comedian like a child. How would that go over?
