Van Jones: On the 9/11 Attacks, Not Just a 'Truther,' But Also a 'Dese
The "resignation" shortly after midnight on Sunday morning of President Obama's "green jobs czar" Van Jones has generally been seen as a convenient holiday weekend move. By Friday, after White House Secretary Robert Gibbs would only say that he still was a part of the administration, it was obvious that Jones's resignation was only a matter of time. The 9/11 truther and other evidence…
Sarah Palin Slams AP for Publishing Picture of Dying Marine
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has come down strongly on the Associated Press's decision to publish a picture of a dying Marine. On Sunday, Palin wrote to her followers at Facebook claiming the wire service was "heartless and selfish to turn its back on the wishes of a grieving family in order to exploit the tragic death of a true American hero" The headline -- "Shame on the Associated Press…
Media Spin Abounds Over Last Friday's Employment Report
On Friday, Uncle Sam's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the nation's unemployment rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 9.7% in August, and that the economy lost another 216,000 seasonally adjusted jobs. In various ways, the press tried to put a happy face on the news and otherwise tried to minimize its impact. It also continued, as it has for years, to ignore what really happened on the…
MRC/NB's Bozell Slams AP for Publishing Photo of Mortally Wounded Mari
Reacting to the Associated Press's decision to publish -- against a grieving father's wishes -- a photo of a mortally-wounded Marine, MRC President and NewsBusters Publisher Brent Bozell blasted the news wire in a statement today: The Associated Press should be ashamed for even thinking something as preposterous as this. This photo will do nothing but cause great sorrow for the family of a hero.…
AP Highlights Canadian Job Gains, Ignores American Losses
In the same month the United States shed 216,000 nonfarm jobs, our neighbor to the north added 27,100.Canada's unemployment rate is also a full percentage point lower than ours.As American media focus on the just-released August employment data, will they point out this gain in Canada and how much better our neighbor's labor markets are doing than ours?Consider that as the Associated Press…
Here We Go Again: Corrupt PA Judges Not Tagged As Dems
Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan are Democrats. Is it okay to write that? Apparently, it's not in an establishment media report, based on the last six months of coverage of these two corrupt Pennsylvania judges. In February (at NewsBusters; at BizzyBlog), I noted that the Associated Press ran a story about two Pennsylvania judges "charged with taking millions of dollars in kickbacks to send…
CBS/AP Story: Docs Concerned Terminally Ill May Prematurely Die Under
"U.K. Docs Worry Patients Dying Prematurely," reads a headline featured this afternoon in CBSNews.com's Top News menu. The link brings readers to a CBS/AP story with the same headline. But when one reads through the article, it becomes clear the matter at hand may have some bearing over a controversial issue in America's current health care reform debate (emphasis mine):A group of British doctors…
AP Coverage of Ford-UAW Negotiations Ignores Union's Ownership Interes
Ford and the United Auto Workers are set to begin new contract talks under a set of circumstances radically different from any previously faced by either party. There is the "minor" matter of the union's ownership stakes in General Motors and Chrysler that arose in the wake of those two companies' government-engineered bankruptcy filings, accomplished with more than a little rule-bending by the…
AP Shocker: 'Health Care Reform Used as NY Crime Ploy
Given the media's love for ObamaCare, you probably never expected to see this kind of a headline:Police: Health Care Reform Used as NY Crime Ploy Impossible?Well, as hard as it might be to believe, there it was late Saturday evening, from the Associated Press no less:
AP Robert Schindler Obit Misrepresents Terri Schiavo Autopsy Results
Robert Schindler, father of Terri Schindler Schiavo, has passed away. Condolences to his courageous family and friends. Associated Press writer Kelli Kennedy's coverage of Mr. Schindler's death, and her recounting of the Terri Schiavo story, is a mixed bag. On the one hand, she writes that "the feeding tube that had nourished her for years was removed according to her husband's wishes." I would…
AP Mostly Quotes from Leftists on Ted Kennedy's Catholicism
Jay Lindsay quoted almost exclusively from liberals in his report on Ted Kennedy’s Catholicism for the AP on Friday. Only one of those excerpted by Lindsay was a conservative, not counting Catholic Church officials. The AP correspondent led his article, titled “Kennedy’s Catholicism source of comfort, conflict,” with some glowing language, but at least portrayed how the deceased senator was not…
Cash For Clunkers A 'Success' At Exposing Continued Decay at Bailed-Ou
Julia Seymour, Kyle Drennen, and several others at NewsBusters have done a great job (here and here, here, and here, just for starters) exposing the establishment media's rush to characterize the government's Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) program, commonly known as "Cash for Clunkers" program, a success. This media meme has persisted despite processing snafus, slow payments to dealers,…
