Children’s Book about Abortion: My ‘Sister Is a Happy Ghost!’

A three-year-old named Lee defends the abortion of his sister in a new children’s book – by an author with her own “ghost sister.”  “Sister Apple, Sister Pig” by Mary Walling Blackburn focuses on an adult topic: abortion. The story follows Lee as he (or “she,” as the author stressed) searches for his sister – who might be an apple, a pig, or somewhere in a tree. Lee later decides “Sister is a…

CBS Promotes Idea to Put Liberals Such as Margaret Sanger on the $20

The journalists at CBS This Morning on Wednesday promoted as uncontroversial the idea that Andrew Jackson should be removed from the $20 and substituted with the likes of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger or radical environmentalist Rachel Carson. Co-host Norah O'Donnell described this as "a mission to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 with a female American hero."

Letterman: Ted Cruz Appealing to 'Extreme Right-Wing' of GOP

Discussing the presidential bid of Senator Ted Cruz with Fox News host Bill O'Reilly on Tuesday's CBS Late Show, host David Letterman described the Texas Republican motivating "extreme" supporters: "...he announced at Liberty College [sic], which is Jerry Falwell's place.... And that was, of course, purposeful, because he wanted to establish his – the base, the core of the extreme right-wing part…

Shame On NewsBusters! A Screenwriter's Rebuttal on 'House of Cards'

After reading “Shame on Netflix,” I immediately emailed NewsBusters to defend it: “How dare you besmirch quality television like House of Cards!  Your words are LIES!” But instead of kidnapping me for enhanced interrogations, NewsBusters executive editor Tim Graham offered to post my rebuttal. Which puts me in a jam…I have to tell my liberal-Nazi neighbors some conservatives really are fair and…

Mika: Netanyahu's a Desperate Race-Baiter, But Dick Durbin Was Not

Joe Scarborough, MSNBC’s solitary leaner toward the center-right, was unavailable for Monday’s broadcast of Morning Joe. Without him to restrain her, Mika Brzezinski proceeded to make a piñata out of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s election comments, repeatedly accusing him of “race-baiting.” This is odd, considering Mika insisted just a few days before that Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin…

Larry Wilmore: Ted Cruz Candidacy is ‘Blacklash at its Finest’

On Tuesday night, Comedy Central host Larry Wilmore viciously attacked Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and deemed his 2016 presidential campaign "'Backlash 2016: The unblackening' begins tonight. It is time for America to say f*** you to the notion that once you go black you never go back." The Nightly Show host opened his broadcast by shamelessly proclaiming "we ask the question can a foreign-born half-…

Bozell & Graham Column: The Washington Post's Obama Deniers

It's as if they were waiting, breathlessly. The moment Ted Cruz announced his presidential campaign, the national media proclaimed their horror. He was “brash,” a “hardliner,” an “uncompromising conservative,” they warned. ABC anchor David Muir announced his agenda was the usual No list: “Promising no abortion, no gay marriage, no gun control, no IRS.” Apparently there's no room for hope and…

What's Gone Wrong with Democracy?

The Economist magazine recently published "What's gone wrong with Democracy ... and what can be done to revive it?" The suggestion is that democracy is some kind of ideal for organizing human conduct. That's a popular misconception.

Bob Costas: Gun-Rights Backers Want Ability to Buy Cop-Killer Bullets

This past Friday, sportscaster (and anti-gun advocate) Bob Costas was on HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher, where he scoffed at the criticism he’s received for making many anti-gun statements: “Is this what the Founding Fathers had in mind? … That private citizens should be able to purchase cop-killer, armor piercing bullets? That you should be able to have a AK-47?”

Krauthammer Slams Obama, WH on Reaction to Israeli Spying Story

Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer appeared on the panel for Fox News’s Special Report on Tuesday evening and blasted President Barack Obama for refusing to directly comment on the Wall Street Journal report that Israel has been spying on the negotiations with Iran over its nuclear deal as well as the administration for acting as if Israel’s actions are unprecedented.

New Republic Writer 'Endorses' Obscure Republican Candidate

A writer for The New Republic has "endorsed" a Republican candidate for the presidency. Of course, to receive such an endorsement, such a candidate much have sufficiently liberal credentials to pass muster as well as have absolutely no chance of winning. Such a candidate is one Mark Everson who you probably never heard of since he is pretty much indistinguishable from a department store mannequin…

Nation Columnist: Right-Wing Pundits Seek to ‘Undermine Our Democracy'

The left-liberal magazine The Nation has just published its 150th-anniversary issue, which includes Alterman’s piece on the state of American conservatism. Alterman makes two main points. One is that conservatives are ideologues, whereas liberals are pragmatists. The other is that prominent righty pundits routinely spew nonsense not because they’re dumb, but because extremist plutocrats control…

Matthews Falsely Charges Sen. Cruz Voted Against Every Obama Appointee

Hardball host Chris Matthews was at it again tonight, comparing Sen. Ted Cruz to Joe McCarthy and prattling on with his usual hyperbolic bluster. But Matthews also misinformed his audience by insisting, twice, that the Texas Republican has never voted for an Obama appointee. That's demonstrably false.
