David Gregory to Hillary Clinton: Might GOP Hurt U.S. Prestige and Oba
David Gregory is clearly concerned that if Republicans don't vote in favor of the START treaty with Russia, President Obama's international image, as well as American prestige abroad, will be damaged.
On Sunday's "Meet the Press," Gregory asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, "Is this going to potentially be a problem with the president not being able to get what he wants on the world…

Media Falls Way Short in Claiming Pope Has 'Justified' Condom Use
The media is practically falling over themselves with a report, propagated in part by the flimsy Nicole Winfield of the Associated Press, that Pope Benedict XVI has "justified" the use of condoms. (See this enormous (and misleading) headline at HuffPo, for example.) But is it true? In a word, no. Nowhere in his remarks does the Pope talk about "justifying" anything.
Rev. Joseph Fessio is the…

Eleanor Clift Equates Airport Scanners to CAT Scans: 'What Are We Conc
Newsweek's Eleanor Clift doesn't understand why Americans are uncomfortable with the new body scanners being used at some of the nation's airports.
Chatting about the subject on PBS's "McLaughlin Group," Clift sarcastically said, "Maybe we ought to worry about C-T x-rays and so forth - you never can tell when somebody might put that out" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Amanpour Panelist Regrets ‘Abysmal’ White House PR Means Lack of A
ABC’s Christiane Amanpour on Sunday again gave national U.S. television exposure to a liberal reporter with the London-based Financial Times as she brought Ed Luce, the newspaper’s Washington Bureau Chief and former Clinton administration operative, aboard her This Week roundtable. Luce declared the world would react “with deep horror, I think, but also some amusement,” to a presidential bid by…

Robert Reich: Palin's a 'Realistic Candidate' for President, Not Clear
Former Clinton labor secretary Robert Reich made a couple of rather startling comments on ABC's "This Week" Sunday.
During the Roundtable segment, the devout liberal not only defended former governor Sarah Palin as a "realistic candidate" for president, but also questioned whether or not the government bailout of GM was necessary (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BBC’s Kay Suggests Tea Partiers Put Beating Obama Ahead of ‘Countr
Appearing as a panel member on Sunday’s syndicated Chris Matthews Show, the BBC’s Katty Kay suggested that Tea Partiers are willing to go against the "country’s interest" rather than to "deal" with President Obama. Kay: " And if there is going to be a wing of the Republican Party that says, do not on any issue, on any case, even on its merits, compromise with the President, it’s gonna be the…

Name That Party: In Iowa, With Lame Duck Raise-Granting Dem Gov, Drudg
The seemingly endless variety of "name that party" stunts has yet another wrinkle.
In this case, Matt Drudge is currently linking to a Des Moines Register story ("Culver OKs state pay raises"; also saved here at host for future reference) about how outgoing Iowa Governor Chet Culver has decided to rush through union contracts granting thousands of state employees 3% raises (before considering…

Appearing as a guest on Saturday’s Huckabee show on FNC, Whoopi Goldberg - co-host of ABC’s The View - complained that bloggers disseminate inaccurate information about her without the need to "fact check," and that "they poop on you and they walk away." Goldberg: "But a blogger can say endless stuff. They don't have to fact check. ... And then that is picked up and made into some other story…

NPR's Dirty Campaigners of the Week: 'Conservative Bloggers' Push 'Bol
The U.S. Catholic bishops' conference disappointed liberals this week by choosing a leader who agreed with the bishops' campaign this year against pro-abortion provisions in ObamaCare. On Tuesday night's All Things Considered, NPR religion reporter Barbara Bradley Hagerty reported the expected moderate winner was apparently smeared by “conservative Catholic bloggers” for being too close to the…

Time Offered Meghan McCain as the GOP Expert for 'Person of the Year
Mike Allen at Politico reported Time magazine assembled a strange (some would say "diverse") panel at the Time & Life Building in New York to discuss their annual Person of the Year cover story. Time editor Richard Stengel picked hip-hop musican Wyclef Jean, Google's Marissa Mayer, Democrat consultant Joe Trippi and Ground Zero mosque developer Daisy Khan. Oh, and to add so-called…

Maddow Economics: Tax Cuts, Tax Rates, What's the Difference
Isn't Rachel Maddow supposed to be the smart one at MSNBC? You'd never know it when she talks taxes.
Either that or she's engaged in a pattern of deception that would bring a blush to Bernie Madoff.
Here's Maddow on her show Thursday (first part of embedded video, below page break) --

N.Y. Times Highlighted Yale Prediction: Obama Wins 2012 Race In a 'Lan
In his "Strategies" column in The New York Times, Jeff Sommer is touting how things are looking up for Barack Obama.
Try this: Based on the facts at hand right now, Mr. Obama is likely to win the 2012 election in a landslide. That, at least, is the prediction of Ray C. Fair, a Yale economist and an expert on econometrics and on the relationship of economics and politics.
What’s the basis…
