New York Times: 'It's Even Cool to Wave the Stars and Stripes' Because
January 19th, 2009 12:19 AM
Byron York from NRO's The Corner Blog noticed an interesting little tidbit in The New York Times on January 18. In the Times' recounting of all the interesting events going on in the Capitol surrounding the inauguration of The One, the Times seemed very excited that it was suddenly "cool" to be patriotic.
WASHINGTON is suddenly hip again, infused with the heady double-barreled combination of a…
WaPo: Inaugural Pilgrims 'Loaded with Luggage But Lightened by Hope
January 18th, 2009 8:09 PM
"The president-elect popped into a party at Bobby Van's restaurant, as well as The Washington Post's newsroom, where hard-bitten journalists fumbled for their cellphone cameras and reached for his hand."So noted Post staffer Paul Schwartzman in his January 18 Metro section front-pager "Mr. Obama's (Giddy) Neighborhood." Yet for a supposedly hard-bitten bunch, the Posties sure are giddy over Obama…
Hysterical Hansen Hype: Obama 'Has Four Years to Save Earth
January 18th, 2009 10:30 AM
This is a hopefully good news, bad news post.First, the bad news: James Hansen, head of NASA's the Goddard Institute of Space Studies is still bloviating about the catastrophes that await us because of what yours truly and others refer to as globaloney (the belief that the earth is dangerously warming, that human activity is the cause of the warming, and that radical steps that would cause huge…
Obama AG Nom Eric Holder Approves of Bookstore and Library Searches
January 18th, 2009 4:01 AM
Last Thursday, Barack Obama's nominee for Attorney General, Eric Holder, admitted during his Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing that he supported renewing the part of the Patriot Act that allows for the FBI to seek records from businesses, libraries and bookstores as the policing agency investigates suspects in this country. For years we've seen news agencies and opinionists rail…
AP's 'Q&A' on Geithner's Taxes Has Excuses Galore, No Mention of 'Reim
January 17th, 2009 10:17 AM
The Associated Press's record of running interference for Treasury Secretary nominee Timothy Geithner continues mostly unabated. My chronicle of AP's largely weak coverage, most of which has been previously detailed at NewsBusters (here, here, and here), is at the end of this post.No AP report I have seen has noted that Geithner applied for and merely pocketed partial "reimbursements" from the…

January 16th, 2009 10:36 AM
"Sometimes, Brian, I think we live in a parallel universe, where the media see the world one way when it's a Democrat in power and another way when a Republican is in power," NewsBusters Publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News Channel's Brian Kilmeade. [audio of segment available here]The Media Research Center president appeared on the January 16 "Fox & Friends" to discuss an astounding contrast…
Susan Crawford and the Media: Torture is as Torture Does
January 16th, 2009 2:08 AM
Susan Crawford's recent assertions of torture simply do not add up, and your main stream media isn't going to investigate anytime soon. Had Crawford made an assertion that there was unequivocally no torture to speak of at Guantanamo, the media would be sifting meticulously through her statements with a fine-toothed comb, smearing her reputation at every turn. Instead, her arguments seemingly…
Absolutely Pathetic AP Headline: 'Bush address includes laundry list o
January 16th, 2009 12:36 AM
Wow. This unbylined Associated Press story (HT Michelle Malkin) doesn't really require any elaboration, except to note one thing -- It ends the debate over the existence of liberal/left media bias: Exit question:
Minn. StarTribune Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
January 15th, 2009 10:44 PM
Many in the Minneapolis area call the paper the RedStarTribune for its often overbearing leftist point of view, but whatever the case of its editorial direction the paper itself is headed for court to file for bankruptcy. And this is another one of the nation's largest papers looking to go belly up.
The StarTrib (or Strib as its also called) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Thursday.
NBC Revives Barbara Walters' 'Disturbing' Label of Palin
January 15th, 2009 5:34 PM
During a report on Thursday’s Today show, NBC News correspondent Norah O’Donnell replayed Barbara Walters’ characterization of Sarah Palin’s recent interview as “disturbing” from Tuesday’s The View. O’Donnell highlighted how the Alaska governor’s comments about how the media treated her versus how it treated Caroline Kennedy “drew a reaction” from the ABC host, and that it was “one more sign that…
'Fox & Friends' Hosts Note AP's Double Standard on Inaugural 'Extravag
January 15th, 2009 4:21 PM
Presumably after having read NewsBusters Senior Editor Rich Noyes's January 14 blog on the matter, the hosts of "Fox & Friends" today discussed the Associated Press's double standard on presidential inauguration spending.STEVE DOOCY: When you look back at how the mainstream media described his [George W. Bush's second] inaugural, back when he spent about $40 million on it... critics, for…
Tax 'Goof' Update: Geithner Was 'Reimbursed' for Taxes He Didn't Pay
January 15th, 2009 10:02 AM
Yesterday, details discovered about Treasury Secretary nominee Timothy Geithner's tax situation moved it to well past the level of an "honest mistake."You wouldn't know it from the Associated Press's Julie Hirschfeld Davis, who, as I noted yesterday (at NewsBusters; at BizzyBlog), continues to run interference for him. A story from Thursday afternoon that has since been dynamically updated had a…
Obama Inaugural A CO2 Disaster About to Happen! Will Green Loving Medi
January 15th, 2009 9:22 AM
It ain't easy being green, and in the case of Barack Obama's inaugural, it seems like he's not even trying to green it up. According to the Institute for Liberty, the Obamathon in Washington will produce about 575 million pounds of CO2 emissions.
In a study titled Carbon Bigfoot, the IFL concludes that the CO2 glut will be substantial. From the global warming wrecking celebs flying all over the…
