Daily Kos Week in Review: Santorum, the Apostle of Death

February 18th, 2012 7:25 AM

As John Kerry might put it, Daily Kos was against Rick Santorum both before and after it was for him. On Wednesday, the site unveiled Operation Hilarity, which urges Kossacks in four states that soon will hold an open Republican primary or caucus to vote for Santorum in order to prolong the GOP race and thereby (the thinking goes) make the eventual nominee a weaker opponent for President Obama.

Operation Hilarity notwithstanding, Kossacks remain free to vilify Santorum, and did so as usual this past week.  As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Kaili Joy Gray: Santorum is a simple man...

...Santorum...dreams of a simpler time when women died in back alley abortions, and an even simpler time when Christian crusaders slaughtered non-believers...

xxdr zombiexx: ...who green-lights gay-bashing...

...Santorum is a MAJOR LEAGUE hater and member of the American Taliban. These folks fear the significant uptick in anti-gay violence that would ensue in the (grossly unlikely) event of a Santorum victory...

MinistryOfTruth: ...and loves money but hates (most) sex

...[Santorum's] entire campaign is a frothy blend of bigotry and bankster worship. [It] doesn't make me think of Jesus Christ, it makes me think of Fred Phelps...

Kos: Sexual abuse of minors is Catholic Church policy

...Republicans jumped in bed with the bishops, thinking they could wedge Catholics to their side, and instead adopted the least popular Catholic agenda item. Well, except for child rape, of course.

Mark Sumner: The GOP is a cult based on lies

...The truth is that the Republicans have nothing to offer. Not even anything that looks like a governing philosophy. Conservatism has moved out of the ranks of political theories and simply become a cult; one that requires that certain phrases be mouthed, that certain hatreds be nourished, and that purity be maintained regardless of cost. That schism with reality is increasingly large and increasingly obvious. They try to paper over that gap by dismissing little things like science, reason, history...

The real danger isn't that someone might listen to the Republicans—anyone who lies long enough and loud enough can always find an audience, especially when that someone has three quarters of the television media and ninety+ percent of radio. The danger is that we might forget that they're lying...

8ackgr0und N015e [sic]: Global-warming skeptics must die

...[F]acts have never stopped the global warming deniers from pushing their faith-based positions. They don't want to think about stuff; they go with their gut. They feel they are right and that is good enough for them. I think we should respect and validate their feelings.  In the future, if anyone wants to seriously debate the threat of global warming I suggest we agree to have that debate on one condition. We do it in a room that is 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Centigrade). The deniers may not change their minds, but at least we won't waste a lot of valuable time arguing with them before they succumb to heat stroke.
