With election week over, the left wing media was in desperate need of a new obsession, and they have apparently found it in new White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, appointed by President Trump on Friday, replacing Susie Wiles. Miller, who has been a target of the left for years while serving in both Trump administrations, came under heavy verbal fire Friday night on CNN's Election Week In America.
On the 10pm edition of the show, CNN contributor and New York Times podcaster Lulu Garcia-Navarro was filling in for Abby Phillip, and began the Miller segment with, "Tonight, if Republicans dug themselves a hole, Donald Trump may be making it deeper with his first major move since his party's historic midterm losses."
She continued, painting Miller in a negative light.
GARCIA-NAVARRO: The President just promoted one of his most controversial loyalists, naming Stephen Miller Chief of Staff, replacing Susie Wiles. Miller, of course, is the architect of some of Trump's policies that Americans overwhelmingly rejected, including the ICE raids.
After citing reaction to the move from unnamed administration sources and RFK Jr., she played a pre-taped clip of Trump for CBS's 60 Minutes, saying he did plan on firing people, while defending Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. And then it was on to the panel and left wing YouTuber, Adam Mockler, who apparently decided to show off his depth, by calling Miller a slew of names.
GARCIA-NAVARRO: Double down, that is what the President is doing here. That is the signal that he is sending by putting Stephen Miller into the most powerful position in the White House, apart from the President himself. What do you think is going on, and what do you think it signals?
MOCKLER: Let's look at some numbers here for a second. Republicans just lost Latino Americans by a 28-point swing towards Democrats. They lost Asian Americans with a 17-point swing towards Democrats. People are rejecting Donald Trump, and after this overwhelming rejection, he decided to double down and promote the most extreme, hateful, white nationalist, insane person to the chief of staff position in the White House.
Mockler was permitted to call Miller a white nationalist, defined as, "one of a group of militant white people who espouse white supremacy and advocate enforced racial segregation", with no proof, and with no pushback from the host who piled on as she turned to Lydia Moynihan of the New York Post and broke out Sigmund Freud.
GARCIA-NAVARRO: Lydia, I mean, to Adam's point, it does seem like Stephen Miller is Donald Trump's spirit animal. I mean, it's like his id unleashed in some ways.
Later in the segment Mockler, Moynihan and talk Host Jason Rantz went back and forth with conservative Rantz finally calling out Mockler for his unsubstantiated, white nationalist accusation against Miller.
MOCKLER: Do you think Stephen Miller is a radical himself?
RANTZ: No, I don't think he's a radical himself.
MOCKLER: Do you think that --
RANTZ: I know you think he's a white nationalist because it gets you clicks to say stupid things like that.
MOCKLER: He was on white nationalist websites in 2019.
RANTZ: It is -- look, if you want --
MOCKLER: Keep doubling down on that point.
And then, like a Phillip fill-in, Garcia-Navarro came rushing to Mockler's defense, adding her own unsubstantiated claim, to back up an unsubstantiated claim.
GARCIA-NAVARRO: There is a lot of reporting to suggest, hold on, that Stephen Miller has animus towards in particular Latinos.
RANTZ: Are you saying he's a white nationalist?--
MOCKLER: He was on white nationalist websites.
RANTZ: Is that your view?
Garcia-Navarro just ended the discussion without Rantz getting an answer to his question: "Next! The White House is now threatening conservative groups against criticizing the president, and MAGA media is starting to splinter."
None of these kind of attacks on Miller are new. Last November on CNN NewsNight ("Thunderdome"), Miller's wife Katie ripped Phillip, for not speaking up when her husband was called a white nationalist and a "Nazi Jew" by Jennifer Welch on the I've Had It podcast, where Phillip was a guest. And you can be sure there will be more to come.
