Rubio on Grayson: If Republican Used Burning Cross in Fundraiser Media Would Call for Resignation

NewsBusters readers are likely aware that Congressman Alan Grayson (D-Fl.) recently sent out a fundraising letter equating the Tea Party with the Ku Klux Klan.

Appearing on Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg Show Wednesday, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) denounced Grayson while saying of the media’s lack of coverage of this matter, “If that was a Republican or a conservative of course, they’d be calling for their resignation” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

STEVE MALZBERG, HOST: Congressman from your state, Alan Grayson, recently just launched a fundraising letter with a cross, a burning cross representing, and then after the burning cross’s “T” it says “Tea Party,” “EA Party.” And, you know, there hasn’t been a lot of outrage, not as much as I think there should be. What’s your reaction to something like that?

SENATOR MARCO RUBIO (R-FLORIDA): Well, that’s not surprising. This is an individual who’s had a history of outrageous and ridiculous claims and comments, and he’s not held accountable by anybody. The mainstream media just kind of ignores it. If that was a Republican or a conservative of course, they’d be calling for their resignation, there’d be mass protests. But you won’t hear any talk about that. And I think it just exposes the hypocrisy in the mainstream media.

But I’m not surprised that this individual did that. I mean, he’s been embarrassing the state of Florida for the better part of four to six years.

Indeed, but what else is fascinating is that despite Grayson’s embarrassing and deplorable behavior, he’s a darling of the liberal media, in particular MSNBC.

But that makes perfect sense.
