Malicious Misinformation: The View’s 10 Worst LIES of 2023

January 1st, 2024 4:00 PM

Despite being under the ABC News umbrella, the liberal ladies of The View left facts and truth out in the rain. Throughout 2023, WITHOUT EVIDENCE, the cast was busy cooking up outlandish lies about Republicans at all levels of government. And in most instances the record went uncorrected and cast members went unpunished by their network executives.

They accused Republicans of everything from cheating to win elections to rewriting history to literally killing kids (while they supported abortion), even cheered on other’s lies about the right. And as NewsBusters’ retrospective on the useless “conservatives” proved, there wasn’t much pushback on the lies. In fact, sometimes they’d happily join in spreading falsehoods and misinformation.

Presented here are The View’s 10 worst instances of malicious misinformation of 2023.

  1. The View Blames GOP Gun ‘Lapel Pins’ for ‘Causing Kids to Die’

The View’s most disgusting series of lies all involve telling America that Republicans want/get rich off the death of kids. After Georgia Republican Congressman Andrew Clyde, who owns a gun store, handed out hand out AR-15-shaped lapel pins to his colleagues, co-host Joy Behar suggested the pins were responsible for killing kids.

“This is promoting more and more gun love, love of guns. Love of guns. And that's the kind of society we're in. Many of these people don't seem to understand that their actions are causing kids to die,” she screeched.

  1. The View Claims the GOP Makes 'A Lot of Money Off Children's Deaths'

That wasn’t the only time in 2023 they fabricated misinformation about Republicans and their support for the Second Amendment. A bitter Behar accused congressional Republicans of not passing gun control because they’re getting rich off dead kids.

“Nothing. They'll do nothing. They do nothing. It's all about the money,” she sneered. “Okay, follow the money. This is what this is all about. The gun lobby. All these people who are selling guns. They make a lot of money off children's deaths apparently in this country.”

  1. The View Kicks Off Pride Month Claiming GOP Wants Gays Executed

June was “Pride Month,” and so to satiate their apparent desire to keep death a part of the conversation, they insisted that conservatives wanted homosexuals executed. Of course, it came from Behar again:

In Uganda, they just imposed a stringent law, life imprisonment or execution if you're considered to be homosexual. 64 countries, half of them are in Africa, criminalize homosexuality. The other half are all over the place. I mean, is that what we want our country to be, like Uganda? I mean come on! Or Russia?

  1. The View: Power-Hungry GOP Only Win Elections By ‘Cheating’

Keeping to focus on Behar, she dabbled in a bit of election denialism in the spring as she suggested that the only way Republicans win any election was by “cheating.”

“They said it all but this is the beginning of the end of the Republican Party, as I see it. I don't see they're going to win elections anymore in this country,” she proclaimed. “The only way the Republican Party fights against this is to raise the voting age, stop people from voting, all they do is tricks! Tricks!”

Staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in to suggest Republicans “don't have any proposals, they don’t a platform” but what they did have was “grievance politics” and “scaring people.”

  1. Disney’s Attack Dogs? The View Unloads INSANE Lies, Hate at DeSantis

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis was arguably The View’s single greatest target for their misinformation within the Republican Party in 2023. They essentially acted as Disney’s attack dogs, spewing all sorts of lies about DeSantis’s policies and education standards.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg claimed he was trying “to pretend an entire section of the United States [black Americans] doesn't exist.” Faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin falsely claimed DeSantis was “literally talking about erasing history” like slavery and the Civil War from Florida’s education standards.

  1. ABC News? The View Claims ‘Fascist’ DeSantis Plans to ‘Ban the Alphabet’

Their misinformation about Florida’s education standards was so out of control that fake Republican co-host Ana Navarro asserted DeSantis was looking to “ban the alphabet.” “He's against LGBTQ. I think he's going to ban the alphabet. Holy hell,” she exclaimed.

Behar just had to get her rusty two cents to add: “These people, these fascists out there like DeSantis, they think that we're just going to sit back and let them do whatever they want. No, we're not. We've seen this movie before. Okay? Those of us who lived in the '60s and '70s, we saw this movie. There were many many fascists coming down the pike…”

  1. Behar Claims GOP Wants to Ban Holocaust from History Classes

There’s obviously a pattern that Behar is a source of a lot of the malicious misinformation coming from The View. And during International Holocaust Remembrance Day she proclaimed that Republicans were trying to eliminate teaching about the Holocaust from history classes.

“I mean, they don't want to teach history in this country. They don't want to teach CRT. They don't want to teach the Holocaust, but we're going to learn about it anyway,” she claimed, without evidence.

  1. He ‘Terrorized Me’: Sunny Hostin Claims Jim Jordan Is a ‘Terrorist’

After Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the role as speaker, one of the names that initially floated to the top was Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan (R). Upon hearing this Hostin called him a “terrorist” and that he “terrorized her.”

“He looked disheveled and he immediately was screaming and yelling and terrorized me and the other experts on the panel. And describing him as a terrorist is exactly that,” she claimed.

NewsBusters did a little digging and discovered just how much a lie that was. Jordan never addressed Hostin at the hearing. Instead, he peppered questions to then-CNN analyst Jeffrey Toobin about Ukraine and comments he made on-air. Also didn’t engage in anything that could be described as “screaming and yelling.”

  1. The View Praises Biden’s ‘Brilliant’ ‘Masterful’ Lies About GOP at SOTU

While The View does pump out a lot of malicious misinformation, they can appreciate others on the left who do the same (“game recognizes game” as the kids say). Following President Biden’s State of the Union address, they praised “brilliant” and “masterful” misinformation about Republicans:

HAINES: It was almost like a social experiment that played right into his hands. Because he knows – and Alyssa, you can add some clarification to this. I didn't realize this was a small group of people that were proposing this. And so, when you throw it out there and you wait for everyone to say “no,” then you get this bipartisan uproar. So, we can work together. So, you agree with me. We’re cool.

GOLDBERG: Yeah, and everybody saw it. That was the greatest part.

HAINES: It was so brilliant.

BEHAR: It was brilliant.

  1. ABC: ‘No Evidence’ of Hunter Corruption Except Burisma/Chinese Diamond

And to cap off their malicious misinformation milestones for 2023, we have their lies about there being “no evidence” to back up allegations of Hunter Biden/Biden family corruption… except for all of the stuff they admit exists.

When news broke in June that Hunter had agreed to a cushy plea deal (which ended up falling apart in court), ABC chief Washington correspondent Jon Karl appeared on-air with the cast declare: “They claim they have traded off their name, that they've – that they've gotten money from foreign entities illegally. None of that's been proven. There's no evidence of that.”

He would later go on to admit “Hunter Biden was given, a 2.8-carat diamond from a Chinese business associate” and that the money he received from a Ukrainian energy company was suspicious.
