The U.S. Supreme Court issued two rulings on the topic of gay marriage today, clearing the way for gay marriage to procede in California but avoiding the issue in other states by saying that federal courts had no right to rule on the matter since the state government had not decided to appeal the verdict of California's highest court striking down the law.
In a separate case, the court said that gays who are actually legally married cannot be denied federal benefits by the Defense of Marriage Act.
