MSNBC Host: ‘I Feel Some Gratitude to David Koch’

It’s a day that both conservatives and liberals never thought would happen. An MSNBC host on June 23 actually took time out of his program to thank one of that network’s favorite bogeymen: David Koch.

Although he softened the blow by insisting that he still held to Sen. Harry Reid’s criticism of David Koch and his brother Charles (Harry Reid called the two “un-American,” and accused them of leading a “cult”), Lawrence O’Donnell, host of MSNBC’s “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,” had to admit that he was thankful for how much the conservative donor has given to hospitals.

After a being involved in a traffic accident, O’Donnell was taken to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. According to O’Donnell, “the first words I saw when I was rolled into the hospital was the name David H. Koch. Yes, that David Koch.” O’Donnell went on to say that Koch had given more than $25 million to the hospital that cared for him.

The networks love to criticize the Koch brothers’ political spending, but they rarely report on major liberal donors. In fact, since 2012 ABC, CBS and NBC have covered  Koch spending 9 times more than they covered liberal billionaires George Soros, Tom Steyer or the Democracy Alliance, a group that coordinates the spending of liberal mega donors.
