CNN's Camerota Backs Democrat Rep in Blaming Trump for Airliner Shootdown

January 10th, 2020 8:13 AM

The evidence points to Iran having shot down the Ukrainian airliner, killing 176 people. So naturally, according to CNN's Alisyn Camerota . . . President Trump is to blame.

This morning's New Day rolled dueling clips from two Members of Congress. In the first, Dem Rep. Jackie Speier squarely blamed President Trump, saying that the shootdown is "yet another example of collateral damage from the actions that have been taken by in a provocative way by the President of the United States."

In response, Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger said, "blaming the president for the Iranian airliner shootdown—we are broken as a country if this is the level of our debate going forward."

Camerota left no doubt that she came down on Speier's blame-Trump side of the argument, saying that whereas both made interesting points:

"I think it’s fair to say this would not have happened if there were not tensions between the US and Iran."

Translation: Trump's fault!

This is the kind of reflexive blame-America/Trump first reaction that typifies the liberal media. It goes beyond "sad" into the realm of "repulsive" and "outrageous."

Here's the transcript.

ALISYN CAMEROTA: Obviously, we’re still trying to figure out exactly what happened with that plane where 176 passengers were killed. Iran has a different explanation at the moment than Canada, the US, UK. But you’re already, Margaret, hearing lawmakers — well, I mean, casting blame for how, why this happened. So listen to this moment.

JACKIE SPEIER: This is yet another example of collateral damage from the actions that have been taken by in a provocative way by the President of the United States.

ADAM KINZINGER: Blaming the president for the Iranian airliner shootdown—we are broken as a country if this is the level of our debate going forward.

CAMEROTA: I mean, they both make interesting points, but, I also think that it’s fair to say this would not have happened if there were not tensions between the US and Iran.
