CNN's Camerota Unconvinced Hunter Biden's Influence Peddling is Joe's Problem

September 24th, 2019 11:00 AM

Okay, so Hunter Biden was peddling influence to a Ukrainian company at the rate of $50,000 a month. And the only influence he could possibly have been peddling was that of his father, who at the time was the sitting Vice-President of the United States. But hey, why should that be a problem for Joe Biden?

That was Alisyn Camerota's apparent logic on CNN this morning. On New Day, foreign policy expert Ian Bremmer said Joe Biden does have a Ukraine problem. Bremmer said the $50,000/month that Hunter Biden was paid by a Ukrainian company was "clearly to be selling influence, because clearly otherwise no one would ever pay him that kind of money."

A dubious Alisyn Camerota responded, "and is that Joe Biden's fault or problem?"

Bremmer immediately said "no" to Camerota's question. Since the only influence Hunter could possibly have been peddling was that of his father, how is that NOT Joe's problem? Can anyone possibly believe Biden's denial of having discussed with son Hunter his Ukraine dealings? Bremmer then added: "it's hard to imagine Joe Biden wasn't aware of it."

Camerota would never try to claim that it's not Donald Trump's problem that Donald Trump Jr. met with Russians at Trump Tower. That's the level of brilliance she's displaying today.

Bremmer suggested that, in the same way Democrats forced Al Franken to resign to show clean #MeToo hands, Democrats might want to throw Biden under the bus to show that they are the party that "cares about values and the rule of law."

Here's the transcript.

IAN BREMMER: Biden does have a problem here, by the way. I have to say: $50,000 a month for Hunter Biden clearly to be selling influence, because otherwise no one would ever pay him that kind of money, for a company that, frankly, was pretty corrupt and has been before and has been since under investigation.

ALISYN CAMEROTA: And is that Joe Biden’s fault or problem?

BREMMER: No. But it’s hard to imagine Joe Biden wasn’t aware of it. And I think that, I expect that President Obama, if he had known about the reality of this situation, would have probably told Biden: get rid of this. Like, we shouldn’t have your son working in this situation. That would have cost him something. And I feel like even if maybe Biden wasn’t aware, but Biden should have been aware that that would cause an issue for him.

So I mean, if this ends up being an Al Franken moment where he gets thrown under the bus so the Democrats can be seen as the party that cares about values and rule of law, then maybe that’s what they need to do.
