Jim VandeHei on MSNBC: Dem 'Enthusiasm' to Protect Illegals, Not Borders

January 2nd, 2019 8:43 AM

I don't think Jim VandeHei realized what a stunning admission he was making. Discussing the shutdown impasse over funding the border wall, the Axios co-founder said:

"I think the [Democrat] party's changed on immigration. I think the feeling that they have to appear to be really strong by supporting a lot more border security, that that has waned, and that the enthusiasm of the Democratic party is for protecting immigrants."

Think about that. VandeHei spoke of Dems protecting "immigrants." But what kind of immigrants surreptitiously cross the border? By definition, they are illegal immigrants. So VandeHei's statement amounts to a stinging indictment of the Dems. Democrats have more "enthusiasm" for protecting illegal immigrants than for protecting the borders of the United States.

Hard to see how that does not represent a violation of the oath of office that all congressional Dems took:

"I, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same."

If you are more enthusiastic about protecting the citizens of foreign countries trying to enter this country illegally than you are about protecting the borders of the United States, you are disloyal to this nation.

The obvious question is, why? Why are Democrats more enthusiastic about supporting the entry of illegal immigrants into the US than they are about protecting our borders? The answer is equally obvious: Democrats will do anything to acquire and retain power.

And if that means refusing to protect our borders while protecting those who would cross it illegally, thereby subverting our Constitution and our security, so be it. Well worth it, in Dem eyes, to keep the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and their socialist fellow travelers in power.

JIM VANDEHEI: What I think Trump is not reading correctly, especially if you look at these tweets is, he 's assuming that the Democratic party of today is the Democratic party of '06 or of 2010. I think the party's changed on immigration. I think the feeling that they have to appear to be really strong by supporting a lot more border security, that that has waned, and that the enthusiasm of the Democratic party is for protecting immigrants."
