'Bunch of BS!' Joy Behar Fumes at Manchin Blocking Dems From 'Saving the Country'

June 7th, 2021 1:05 PM

Like the big three networks did this morning, ABC’s The View attacked West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin on Monday’s show, for daring to oppose his party’s radical election bill, H.R. 1 or the “For the People Act.” The most liberal hosts were disgusted by Manchin’s decision, but conservative co-host Meghan McCain slammed the media’s double standards on bipartisanship and accused the Democrat party of being beholden to the hard left.

Liberal co-host Joy Behar was irate at Manchin, claiming that by doing what his constituents would likely want, the Senator was just trying to “keep his job in West Virginia” and the his bipartisanship excuse was just “a bunch of BS.”

Because only Democrats have noble goals, Behar admitted she was “annoyed” that Manchin was thwarting Democrats from trying to “save the country:”

So come on, come on, Manchin. You know this is a bunch of BS. You know you’re doing this just to keep your job because West Virginia will not have a liberal Democrat. But we’re talking about basically saving the country here and I feel very sad for us and annoyed with him frankly.

Co-host Sunny Hostin aimed her criticism instead at reasonable GOP election security laws that HR1 was trying to dismantle. Taking her cues from the extreme left, Hostin claimed Republicans were “cheating” by enforcing things such as voter ID, and repealing temporary pandemic voting measures:

389 bills, in 48 states that would make it harder for their own residents to vote in upcoming elections. All of those bills have been put forth by Republicans because they don't have agendas to speak to the people. So rather than have agendas that address the very real needs of Americans they've decided to take the vote away from Americans they’ve decided to take away the votes from Americans. They’ve decided to cheat. The only way to address that is to address it federally. That is what this act does...

But Meghan McCain schooled her co-hosts on their own hypocrisy when it comes to blind loyalty within the party:

“There's so many conversations about whether or not Republicans have to bend the knee to Trump. Well, do Democrats have to bend the knee to the squad and everything on the far left? Because it looks like AOC and the squad is dictating who is allowed in your party as well,” she touted.

Instead of attacking Manchin, McCain claimed the rest of his party could take some notes.

Joe Manchin won the state of West Virginia which overwhelmingly it was the state that went the highest voting for Trump in the entire union. Maybe Democrats can learn something about winning red states. Instead of taking lessons from Joe Manchin they would rather call him a heretic and a traitor.

Even she was honest in admitting how the media treated her father as a "hero" because he sometimes sided with Democrats. She blasted their double standard on bipartisanship:

By the way, if you're a Republican who votes against your party, you're a hero and a maverick. So the media coverage of him is really interesting, especially for someone like me,” she admitted.

The conservative co-host also called out President Biden for running on disingenuous promises of bipartisanship but now siding with the hard left:

President Biden didn't run as a Progressive. He didn't run as someone who was going to be on the hard hard left. If that's what the party wanted and in places like South Carolina which the voters of South Carolina handed the presidency to President Biden, if that's what they wanted, we would have an Elizabeth Warren as president.

But Whoopi Goldberg ended the segment by reading off a laundry list of the things she agreed with in the HR1 bill that “Joe Manchin turns his back on when he says ‘no’ to HR1.”

“So now, we have hundreds of bills seeking to curb voting rights….Clearly we have a problem still with people and our voting rights and the voting rights of millions of Americans,” she alleged, without evidence. Goldberg fumed, “voters are going to get screwed” and “everyone’s very lackadaisical about my voting rights,” to end the segment.

JOY BEHAR:  I think he's very naive as Chris Wallace called him. Um, he says he's giving props to his Republican colleagues who are doing the right thing without regard to their careers. That's a very disingenuous remark from Senator Manchin because that's exactly what he's doing….

By doing what the Republican might like he keeps his job in West Virginia is my point. As far as working across the aisle, since 2013 this guy has been working with Senator Toomey to get background checks on guns. Ok? Have we seen any significant movement in that department?

Only, how many, four Republicans voted for it including Toomey, Susan Collins and John McCain back in the day. So come on, come on, Manchin. You know this is a bunch of BS. You know you’re doing this just to keep your job because West Virginia will not have a liberal Democrat. But we’re talking about basically saving the country here and I feel very sad for us and annoyed with him frankly.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Manchin is talking about bipartisanship. Does he really think that him working with them is going to show that as something that is -- we can look forward to in the future?

SUNNY HOSTIN: You know, Mitch McConnell has made it very clear that there is not going to be any bipartisanship. Mitch McConnell said that 100% of the Republicans' focus is to block the Biden agenda. 100% of the focus. It's not only naive to think that bipartisanship in the senate is possible, it is 100% just dead wrong.

Let's think about what's happening in the states. You have uh, 389 bills, 389 bills, in 48 states that would make it harder for their own residents to vote in upcoming elections. That is what this act does. I think that Joe Manchin just has it wrong. He certainly has it wrong when it comes to the filibuster. What he's allows, as Chris Wallace mentioned, he's allowing the Republicans to filibuster and he's empowering them. Because now they know that Joe Manchin will not vote for the filibuster. I will say, this One last thing, I know I'm running out of time. Martin Luther King said years ago the filibuster is often used by misguided senators to block people from voting.

MEGHAN MCCAIN: ….There's so many conversations about whether or not Republicans have to bend the knee to trump. Well, do Democrats have to bend the knee to the squad and everything on the far left? Because it looks like AOC and the squad is dictating who is allowed in your party as well.

Joe Manchin won the state of West Virginia which overwhelmingly it was the state that went the highest voting for Trump in the entire union. Maybe Democrats can learn something about winning red states. Instead of taking lessons from Joe Manchin they would rather call  him  a heretic and a traitor. By the way, if you're a Republican who votes against your party, you're a hero and a maverick. So the media coverage of him is really interesting, especially for someone like me. I respect free thinkers. I love people who buck party trends on both sides. Um, President Biden didn't run as a Progressive. He didn't run as someone who was going to be on the hard hard left. If that's what the party wanted and in places like South Carolina which the voters of South Carolina handed the presidency to President Biden, if that's what they wanted, we would have an Elizabeth Warren as president. But that's not what the democratic coalition wants. If they are going to continue down this path where anyone who thinks differently of them is blood-letted out and seen as a heretic, you're going to have the same problem on your side that I’m having on mine.
