MSNBC: Cheney's Loss Proves 2022 is Choice Between Democracy & Fascism

August 18th, 2022 11:15 PM

In news that will shock nobody, MSNBC’s The ReidOut turned into another Republican bashing segment where a guest referred to the GOP as supporters of Fascism and the Democrats as supporters of democracy. Never mind the fact that the network spent much of Wednesday and Thursday wringing their hands over the defeat of Never Trump Republican Liz Cheney’s landslide defeat for renomination. The leftist media only reveres democracy so long as their preferred candidates win.

Filling in for the vacationing Joy Reid, fill-in host Tiffany Cross brought on MSNBC political analyst Fernand Amandi to discuss the 2022 midterms and recent polling in key Senate races.

Discussing how Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell recently admitted how it looks more likely Republicans will win back control of the House of Representatives than the Senate, Cross said “it’s a sign that says something that Mitch McConnell is concerned. However, I do think about the rampant voter suppression happening across the country.”

In response, Amandi wailed that “fundamentally, right now what is on the ballot this November, let's not make any mistake about it. And I think the Liz Cheney result from this week made it crystal clear. The choice is not between Democrat and Republican. It's between democracy and fascism.”

He even cried voter suppression by claiming “the Republican playbook is to rig the system and make voting the most difficult thing possible. So you're asking a lot of these Democratic candidates to win in states with one hand tied behind their back, a little pepper spray thrown in their faces.”

Amandi never explained how Republicans support Fascism or are engaging in voter suppression. Maybe because he knows he has no coherent explanation and decided that it’s easier to simply throw around insults and allegations.

This is what passes for news and commentary on MSNBC.

TIFFANY CROSS: Well, here is the things that are concerning me, Fernand. Because I hear what you're saying. And I think it’s a sign that says something that Mitch McConnell is concerned. However, I do think about the rampant voter suppression happening across the country. I think about partisan poll watchers. I think about these folks who are running how elections are happening, who perhaps have been emboldened since January 6.

And I wonder if this is not a fair playing field. Could voters so overwhelmingly be frightened at what they're seeing from the Republican Party that once again they will leapfrog over these kind of tactics to suppress the will of the people?

FERNAND AMANDI: Well, there has to be a way to get that done, Tiffany. Because fundamentally, right now what is on the ballot this November, let's not make any mistake about it. And I think the Liz Cheney result from this week made it crystal clear. The choice is not between Democrat and Republican. It's between democracy and fascism.

But you’re right. The Republican playbook is to rig the system and make voting the most difficult thing possible. So you're asking a lot of these Democratic candidates to win in states with one hand tied behind their back, a little pepper spray thrown in their faces. When you take into consideration all of these efforts that the Republicans are doing in these states to make voting more difficult and to target certain voters.

We certainly see it everywhere but it's especially happening here even in my home state of Florida which is where in an otherwise environment where things are looking really difficult now for the Republicans and have been in these last two weeks. It’s still something you have to contend with. And you’re right you cannot take them for granted because what they’re doing is trying to monkey it up.
