MSNBC: It's January 6 Forever! GOP Makes Insurrections a Litmus Test

May 19th, 2022 6:00 PM

On Thursday’s installment of MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, PBS’s Washington Week moderator, and NBC Washington correspondent Yamiche Alcindor as well as fake Republican and editor-at-large of The Bulwark, Charlie Sykes continued their tradition of blaming everything they don’t like about our politics on the January 6 riots at the Capitol.

Anchor Nicole Wallace led off the unhinged segment by whining about former President Donald Trump urging Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz to declare victory due to his lead in the too-close-to-call election.

This set Alcindor off and led her to claim that “the fault line on the right and Nicole, what this is it's really the long, long shadow of January 6 casting over our nation and casting over all of the election systems that our democracy holds dear.”

Moments later, Sykes jumped in and doubled down on Alcindor’s delusions. Sykes started off by whining Republicans will continue to claim voter fraud “without breaking a sweat although David Purdue is now saying that his election was stolen, as well” and proceeded to agree with Alcindor that “it's really January 6 forever and I think people need to understand that and Donald Trump has made this absolutely clear by telling Dr. Oz just declare that you are a victor.”

After baselessly claiming there’s a January 6 forever, Sykes shamelessly proclaimed a “seditious insurrection [is] not a negative in Republican primaries. In many cases, it's seen as a plus” and even went as far to say “many Republican voters apparently insist on that as a litmus test.”

While you may agree or disagree with former President Trump’s advice to Dr. Oz, what isn’t in dispute is whether there is a January 6 forever or that Republican voters support seditious insurrections. They do not.

This dangerous rhetoric on MSNBC was made possible by Prevagen. Their information is linked so you can let them know about the biased news they fund.

YAMICHE ALCINDOR: It is exactly the fault right–the fault line on the right and Nicole, what this is it's really the long, long shadow of January 6 casting over our nation and casting over all of the election systems that our democracy holds dear. You have now-former President Trump urging Dr. Oz to do what he did in 2020 which is declare victory when he was not the victor, and it might be that Dr. Oz eventually wins that race, but that's not the case now. So, not only do you have former President Trump having broken all of the different sorta precedents in our language having kinda with his language and rhetoric, really question the credibility of our election, but you now have a formal major party that is really just trying to do everything it can to echo those same lies and it's troubling from the experts that I've talked to.

CHARLIE SYKES: At the same time, and they'll continue to do so without breaking a sweat although David Purdue is now saying that his election was stolen, as well. Look, the bottom line, Yamiche said it extremely well. It's really January 6 forever and I think people need to understand that and Donald Trump has made this absolutely clear by telling Dr. Oz just declare that you are a Victor. So not only is involvement in what we regard as seditious insurrection not a negative in Republican primaries. In many cases, it's seen as a plus and -- and Donald Trump and many Republican voters apparently insist on that as a litmus test.
