On Monday night, ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News did all they could to carry water for the radical environmentalists on the far-left by hyping a United Nations (UN) report stating the world has eight years to cut emissions in half to “avoid catastrophic climate change” even suggesting to their viewers that they should switch to a “plant-based diet.”
On NBC, anchor Lester Holt led off the hyperbolic segment before handing it off to chief environmental affairs correspondent Anne Thompson. “It’s now or never for the world to make deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions as we face the prospect of an unlivable Earth,” Holt fretted.
Thompson picked up where Holt left off when it came to baseless fearmongering over the climate, with the hysterical correspondent announcing “the U.N. Says there’s still time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change previewed by last year's wildfires and hurricanes. But we have to move fast.”
She then parroted the U.N.’s talking points and pseudo-solutions which claimed: “we must stop increasing greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. Then swiftly cut them, 43 percent by the end of the decade.”
Thompson ludicrously suggested, “people must switch to a low carbon lifestyle including a plant-based diet.” As if that wasn’t dumb enough, she kept going by suggesting Americans who can barely afford to fill up their cars because of the Biden administration’s current energy policies, should instead buy an expensive electric vehicle to save the planet.
“The cost of electric car batteries down 85 percent, too. That, the report says, is a huge opportunity to slash emissions if the power for electric vehicles comes from renewable sources,” she proclaimed, failing to mention that electric cars are still north of $50,000 for many models.
At the end of the segment, Thompson brought on Biden administration climate envoy John Kerry to ask if Biden is being environmentally friendly enough:
THOMPSON: Is President Biden backing away from his climate commitments by suggesting that we need to increase fossil fuel production?
JOHN KERRY: No, the President is not backing away in the least. In fact, he's doubling down and asking us to do more. He's done that in his budget. He's doing it in his all of government approach.
ABC’s segment on the alleged “climate crisis” was much shorter and less deranged, yet anchor David Muir still felt the need to needlessly frighten his viewers:
MUIR: Tonight, the alarming new report from the U.N. on climate change. The report from 278 scientists warning we need to cut emissions as quickly as possible, by about half, within eight years, to avoid catastrophic climate change, they say. Already they estimate a quarter of the Amazon could be lost by the end of the decade. The report recommending a phasing out of fossil fuels and fossil fuel infrastructure replaced by renewable energy.
Even if humans were capable of affecting the climate in any noticeable way, insisting on Americans changing their way of life is pointless if the biggest polluting nations like China and India refuse to change.

That, the report says, is a huge opportunity to slash emissions if the power for electric vehicles comes from renewable sources.
