Only CBS Covers TN Special Election, But Boosts Leftist by Omitting Vile Statements

Tuesday’s CBS Mornings was the only (and first) flagship morning or evening newscast to mention the special election in Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District to fill an R+10 seat, but the kudos should stop there as the two-minute-and-25-second piece was a puff piece for far-left Democrat — State Representative Aftyn Behn — by ignoring any number of incendiary statements she’s made that include her hatred of Nashville....which is part of the district.

“Voters in Tennessee have an opportunity to send the Trump administration a very strong message today. That’s because there is a special election to fill a congressional seat in the Nashville area. The President won the district a year ago by a wide margin but this race is very close after last month’s elections....A lot of people are watching this one,” co-host and Democrat donor Gayle King began, greasing the skids for her fellow leftists.

 

Correspondent Nicole Valdes filed from Nashville and started by playing Captain Obvious “Republicans are making moves” to keep the seat because “this race could send a message not just to Washington, but President Trump as Democrats try to flip a historically red seat.”

Valdes boasted “there is an unlikely battle brewing over a special election” “in a deep red district” with “Democratic State Representative Aftyn Behn....looking to keep the momentum going and give Democrats another win following the recent blue victories in November in states like New Jersey and Virginia.”

After acknowledging Republicans are “pull[ing] out all of the stops to drum up support for first time GOP candidate Matt Van Epps” with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) making an in-person visit and President Trump holding a tele-rally, she pivoted to Behn with the most milquetoast summation and a softball question. 

Most notably, however, Valdes touted socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Oscasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) involvement in the race:

VALDES: Behn leaned on heavy hitters on the left like former Vice President Al Gore and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. [TO BEHN] Why do you think you have a shot at winning in a district where President Trump won by 22 points?

BEHN: The voters are tired. They’re tired. I have routinely said throughout the campaign, I don’t care who you voted for, I don’t care what political party you belong to, if you are upset with the cost of living and the chaos of Washington, then I’m your candidate.

That was it. Nothing of substance about what Behn believes or why she might lose (other than the district’s voting demographics).

Most glaring with Valdes choosing to ignore Behn as having said she “hates” Nashville. Our friend and former NewsBusters intern, Greg Price brought that old clip to light on November 19:

 

This wasn’t the only controversial and incendiary comment CBS Mornings didn’t care to mention.

In 2019, Behn wrote in the Nashville-based paper The Tennessean that the state is “racist” with “racism...in the air we breathe” and it’s become “wild and untamed.” Our friends at the Free Beacon published a story about that on November 18, but CBS didn’t care either.

Unsurprisingly, she hates the very people she’s asking for their vote. In 2020, she went postal on Trump voters ass having supported a “racist, white supremacist, bigot”:

 

On Monday afternoon, Behn refused to tell CNN’s Kasie Hunt whether she still believes in defunding police: 

 

Speaking of police, even MS NOW called her out in one recent interview for having celebrated a burning police station in the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots:

 

Along with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) having said Behn would back socialized, government-only health care, Behn herself has also said she would support Medicaid funding for illegal immigrants:

 

While the district she’s running to represent is in the central part of the state, she’s smeared the eastern half, expressing relief she’s no longer living there because “I was always someone who wanted to get out of” there.

Behn comes off as a white woman who became a little too woke in school, so it made sense she has branded sororities as “a staple of white supremacy.”

No matter which sets of examples you choose (and we only included a small sampling), Behn has open, undisputed contempt for the state and voters she’s claiming to want to represent in Washington.

And despite all that, CBS News decided to help meddle in the election by keeping that information from voters on its flagship morning show.
