It’s a new trend for the media: celebrating marriage – between a man and woman.

In an interview for November’s GQ cover story, actor Matthew McConaughey, 44, revealed how seriously he views marriage. He and his wife talked to divorcees and happily married couples to come to the conclusion: “'Let's go make a covenant, with you, me, and God.”

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves married in 2012 after six years together – and two kids.

"We talked about it spiritually,” McConaughey said of his marriage prep. He continued:

We did a lot of reading and talked to a lot of people that had been divorced, a lot of people that had been happily married. We talked to our pastor. In the end, our understanding was, 'Let's go make a covenant, with you, me, and God.'"

Before getting married, "I had to get to the point where I saw [getting married] as more than just the thing to do," McConaughey explained. "I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn't want it to be a destination; the fun is that we're on the adventure together."

So is this star signaling a “Bold Stand for Biblical Marriage?” He’s not afraid to acknowledge faith. When receiving an Oscar for Best Actor this year, McConaughey made a point of thanking God.
