[LANGUAGE WARNING]

Singer/songwriter Fiona Apple has re-worked a Christmas classic to mock President-elect Donald Trump. Apple, whose biggest hit “Criminal” was released in 1996, changed the lyrics to Nat King Cole’s standard “The Christmas Song,” (subtitled “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”) to reflect her disgust of Trump.

The updated, more vulgar version opens with the lyric: “Trump’s nuts roasting on an open fire/as he keeps nipping at his foes.”

NME.com’s Adam Bychawski, on December 6, reported the following:

Fiona Apple has shared a Christmas song that pokes fun of Donald Trump.

The singer-songwriter’s take on Nat King Cole’s festive standard ‘The Christmas Song’ features several lines aimed squarely at the president-elect.

“Trump’s nuts roasting on an open fire/as he keeps nipping at his foes,” she begins. “You cry ‘creep uncle’ every time he arrives for he keeps clawing at your clothes.”

It continues: “Everybody knows some money and entitlement can help to make the season white/Mothers of color with their kids out of sight will find it hard to sleep at night.”

Apple closes off the song with: “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas. Donald Trump, fuck you.”

The New York artist was among a number of musicians including Keith Richards, Iggy Pop and Ringo Starr to join a fundraising campaign for the refugee crisis and victims of religious and political violence last month.

Apple’s 1996 track ‘Criminal’ was chosen by US president Barack Obama as one of his picks for his annual summer playlist.

The singer’s last album ‘The Idler Wheel…’ was released in 2012, it followed 2005’s ‘Extraordinary Machine’. In 2014, Apple wrote the opening theme for the Golden Globe-winning American drama series The Affair.
