On Wednesday, our friends at the Daily Caller flagged a blistering appearance by former CBS News journalist host Lara Logan on Tuesday’s Ingraham Angle schooling her former establishment media colleagues for their “depressing” display of infatuation with the Iranian government and hatred for President Trump. Host Laura Ingraham teed Logan up by stating how, in 2020, “[t]he liberal media [are] acting more like state run TV at times than, you know, David Brinkley or any of the greats, like Peter Jennings” by “carrying the water for the Iranian regime” against Trump.
2019 was another year of smashing success for the NewsBusters team as we had umpteen media stories to cover throughout the year, whether it was the Jussie Smollett debacle, the Mueller Report, impeachment, 2020 debates, and more online censorship. While it may seem repetitive, NewsBusters would be nowhere near what its become since its inception in 2005 without the support of beloved readers (and adversaries) who view us as essential reading.
Appearing as a guest on Fox and Friends Saturday, during a discussion of liberal media reaction to the Mueller collusion probe, former CBS reporter Lara Logan complained that the media deceptively gave the impression that the indictments obtained so far are with regard to collusion with Russia when they were, in fact, about issues other than the main focus of the investigation.
With the Jussie Smollett story having disintegrated into tiny pieces, Saturday’s Greg Gutfeld Show had plenty of material and the eponymous host put it to good use, dubbing Smollett, Sandmann, and former CBS correspondent Lara Logan “the three horsemen of the media apocalypse” while having Kat Timpf stage a faux seminar on how journalists make headlines biased.
In something of a follow up to her comments last Friday blasting the liberal media, former CBS News journalist Lara Logan appeared on Fox News’s Hannity Wednesday night with a message for the liberal media folks now targeting her and her career: “[T]hey don’t get to write my story anymore. They do not get to speak for me, I want to say loudly and clearly to anybody who’s listening, I am not owned. Nobody owns me.”
CBS journalist Lara Logan on Friday unleashed a blistering, uncensored attack on the extreme liberal bias polluting America's news outlets. Logan derided the “horses**t” “propagandist” press that has no interest in fairness. Appearing on the podcast of Mike Ritland, the foreign affairs correspondent and occasional 60 Minutes reporter berated slanted coverage in a way rarely seen by those in the mainstream press: “We’ve become political activists in a sense. And some could argue, propagandists, right?”
Apparently, the establishment press is waiting for its marching orders on how to handle what an Investor's Business Daily editorial has already called a "scandal."
This one's a joint effort involving Hillary Clinton, Sidney Blumenthal, a recently deceased former CIA operative named Tyler Drumheller who worked with Blumenthal — and CBS News. As Mark Hemingway at the Weekly Standard reported Tuesday afternoon (i.e., now approaching two overnight news cycles ago), "Drumheller, the former chief of the CIA’s clandestine service in Europe who was working directly with Blumenthal as a member of Clinton’s spy network, was concurrently working as a consultant to CBS News and its venerable news program 60 Minutes." IBD's question, reacting to Hemingway's report: "Who is more corrupt, Clinton or the mainstream media?"
CBS's Lara Logan refreshingly brought new attention to the plight of the ancient Christian communities in Iraq on Sunday's 60 Minutes, as they face annihilation by ISIS. Logan pointed out how ISIS, "just like the Nazis marked the property of Jews, Christian homes...have been marked with this red symbol....When ISIS puts it on your home, you either convert to Islam, pay an extortion tax, or face the sword."
In a Tuesday column for Salon, Heather Digby Parton argued that the Dan Rather Memogate scandal had a sequel of sorts, in which CBS News, attempting to "appease the right wing" -- including the Bush administration -- gave "notorious pro-military war hawk" Lara Logan a prominent role in its programming, only to have it blow up in their faces when Logan's "60 Minutes" story about the Benghazi attack proved seriously flawed.
In Parton's view, Rather at CBS had "a stellar career of war reporting, muckraking and speaking truth to power" and now, on Mark Cuban's AXS TV, "does some really interesting work," though she acknowledges that "only a handful of people see" it.
Former CBS Evening News Anchor Dan Rather, despite being fired as a result of the bogus story, continues to maintain that he got it right in September 2004 when he aired forged documents concerning George W. Bush’s record with the Air National Guard.
On CNN’s Piers Morgan Live Monday, Rather said, “No question the story was true” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
On the Monday, November 11, All In with Chris Hayes show on MSNBC, host Hayes fretted about CBS News correspondent Lara Logan being biased in favor of military action against terrorists. He also theorized that her retraction for using a dishonest source in her Benghazi piece "would be a huge story" if a conservative was being criticized, as he alluded to Dan Rather's story about former President George W. Bush and the National Guard. Hayes began:
Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the IRS scandal and the NSA snooping have all failed thus far to cause the liberal mainstream media to break away from their instinctive partisan-protect mode into a cover regardless of political implication mode.
The betting here is that team Obama is counting on the liberal media giving them the breathing room they need to get things straightened out [on Obamacare] and so the liberal mainstream media will never come down too hard on them. Just enough to be able to say that “we did our jobs as journalists,” but never so much as to cause any real harm to the liberal cause."
