Surprising precisely no one, the New York Times greeted the launch of the presidential campaign of Bobby Jindal, conservative Republican governor of Louisiana, with an almost wholly negative story, portraying the governor as an unpopular failure: "Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is Louisiana’s first nonwhite governor since Reconstruction but whose popularity plummeted as the state struggled with a $1.6 billion shortfall...." He's certainly no Bernie Sanders, the socialist senator from Vermont whom the Times greeted far more favorably when he entered the race, for "injecting a progressive voice into the contest."
Following Bobby Jindal’s Tuesday announcement that he is seeking the presidency in 2016, he has received heat from several mainstream media sources. They have argued Jindal is not a true Indian-American. NBC News continued this trend in an article on their website which suggested that many Asian-Americans and Indian-Americans are skeptical of the Louisiana governor. Frances Kai-Hwa Wang, argued that Asians and Indians reacted with “jokes, embarrassment, critique, and for a few, pride.”
While Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal became the 13th Republican on Wednesday to join the 2016 Republican presidential field, the top English and Spanish-language network evening newscasts all but dodged Jindal’s decision by providing a total of 54 seconds across English networks ABC, CBS, and NBC. The Washington Post found another 2016 contender to bash. Reporter David Fahrenthold on Sunday devoted 2,491 words to a supposedly straight news story on the "lost," "infamous" Bobby Jindal. According to the aggressively negative piece, the Louisiana governor's presidential hopes are "stalled" and the "onetime GOP star is at rick of becoming an afterthought."
