Daily Beast's Tomasky Trash Talk: 'The Clintons Still Aren't Corrupt'

Michael Tomasky of the Daily Beast is prone to wild overstatement. For example, after the last elections, he counseled the Democrats to just avoid the Southern states after Sen. Mary Landrieu lost. It was "just one big nuclear waste site of choleric, and extremely racialized, resentment....Forget about the whole fetid place. Write it off.”

That same wild overstatement came in this new Daily Beast headline: “The Clintons Still Aren’t Corrupt.” The website pulled out this wisecrack for a text box: “I know the fact that she walks freely among us suggests to many people that she and Bill are so brilliantly devious that they always knew exactly how to get away with it.”

How bad are things getting for Hillary when a defender is reduced to arguing, in response to the Clinton Cash allegations, that Bill might have been a dishonest bag man, not letting Hillary know that people were giving him money in an attempt to influence her?!

On today's Morning Joe, responding to the Clinton Cash revelations, MSNBC contributor Dorian Warren said that Bill Clinton "could have been running serious game on many of these countries saying I'll talk to my wife, give me the check, and then never mentioning [it.]"

After briefly alluding to the Clinton Foundation scandal on Monday’s CBS This Morning, the CBS Evening News made no mention of the scandal or a damning new book on the subject from author Peter Schweizer on its Monday evening broadcast. Both ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News did cover the story as well as Hillary Clinton’s response Monday afternoon in New Hampshire, but also parroted Clinton campaign talking points in responding to Schweizer’s allegations.

It’s a little amazing how journalists will swoon over the Clintons’ remarkable ability to survive in politics, failing to recognize that they survive with a huge scoop of assistance from mouth-breathing reporters who love them.

This New York Times headline caught my eye on Twitter on Wednesday: “You Don’t Have to Tell a Clinton Twice.” Jonathan Martin explained that when Gov. Bill Clinton lost his re-election bid in 1980, he told the voters in Arkansas “My daddy never had to whip me twice.” So how does that match Clinton's decades of adultery and sex harassment charges?

In the first network newscasts since Hillary Clinton officially announced her presidential campaign, on Sunday night ABC and NBC cheered Clinton’s announcement and gushed over her campaign video as well as the traffic it received on Twitter. In addition, the networks refused to label her a liberal. “The campaign kicked off with this video sent out on social media. Twitter lighting up the announcement. Check this out. Retweeted 3 million times the first hour, trending number one across the globe.”
