The liberal claim that Republicans are engaging in a perpetual “war on women” seems to have taken a new turn on MSNBC. No longer does the term “war on women” apply only to access to abortion but now encompasses voting rights as well.

Appearing on MSNBC on October 29, liberal MSNBC host Thomas Roberts claimed that Republicans are trying to restrict a woman’s access to the ballot box. This comes one week after fill-in host Michael Eric Dyson made a similar complaint on The Ed Show. [See video after jump.]  

Just behind the "war on women" and charges of racism, MSNBC's third favorite bogeyman is the specter of "voter suppression." The network was obsessed with that meme in 2012 and will doubtless pound the pulpit on it in the congressional midterms, but it's been relatively quiet about it in 2013. That changed today when MSNBC Live anchor Thomas Roberts brought on Kathy Culliton-Gonzalez of The Advancement Project to forward the complaints of Virginia Democrats against a state voter registry clean-up that has removed about 38,000 from the state's rolls. Liberal Democrats in the Old Dominion took the state to court for daring to kick off the voter registry folks who had registered to vote in other states after having registered in Virginia. Federal judge Claude Hilton turned down their request to reverse the move.

True to form, Roberts described the effort as a "purge," even though the roughly 38,000 scrubbed from state rolls accounts for less than 0.8 percent of the state's "active voter registrations." What's more, as the Associated Press reported, Judge Hilton ruled that no voter was suffering "irreparable harm" from the clean-up because "anybody wrongly stricken can cast a provisional ballot" on election day.

Shortly before the conclusion of the October 9 edition of his MSNBC Live program, anchor Thomas Roberts treated Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) to a softball interview regarding the pro-amnesty Camino Americano rally held Tuesday on the National Mall, which she attended. Roberts failed to pose any tough policy-oriented questions to Schakowsky on the matter of immigration reform, nor did he bring on another guest who disagreed with the Democrat-favored approach to the policy.

But what takes the cake is how, at the end of his brief chat with the liberal congresswoman, Roberts cheered Schakowsky for getting arrested Tuesday subsequent to the rally, gushing that "it's good that your rap sheet is getting longer for a great cause." Schakowsky was arrested for blocking a public street near the Capitol, not for expressing her views on immigration reform legislation [MP3 audio available here; watch the video below the page break].

MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts granted an interview to Greg Hernandez of Gay Star News to discuss being “out and proud” as a news anchor. Don't say impartial news anchor.

“I feel blessed, I feel very lucky,' Roberts declared. “I love the MSNBC brand, I love my colleagues and I love this network, I love that I get to be my full self at work and I get to tackle these (LGBT) topics that are very important to our modern day conversation and the news cycle in general.” Roberts devotes at least one segment each weekday morning to the gay agenda, and like the rest of MSNBC, almost never featuresopponents. Gay Star News didn’t recognize that:

MSNBC host Thomas Roberts took a hostile tone with RNC Communications Director Sean Spicer in a Thursday interview on MSNBC Live, suggesting the GOP just wants “to scream into an echo chamber” during the 2016 presidential cycle. Roberts appeared to take issue with the RNC’s campaign against planned Hillary Clinton projects from CNN and NBC, asking if the RNC was “making a huge mistake with this ultimatum.”

Spicer wasn’t going to let Roberts off easy, though. The Republican blasted CNN and NBC, pointing out that the two networks “are not the be-all and end-all of how people get their news.” Spicer suggested the RNC may reach out to Bloomberg, ABC, and Spanish-language networks for 2016 primary debates, simply asserting: “there are other networks.”
