Group loyalty is a big part of politics on both sides of the fence, but as far as lefty pundit Marcotte is concerned, it’s become so inflated on the right that it often crowds out crucial things like “basic common sense.”

In a Friday Talking Points Memo column, Marcotte asserted that “conservatives are going way too far with this knee-jerk tendency to believe ‘their’ people can do no wrong and to assume ‘liberals’ are some subversive force out to destroy everything. It’s mildly amusing when Republican voters are mindlessly preferring religious nutcases” -- the Duggars -- “to a centrist liberal who probably gave them health care."

In a Tuesday post for Slate, lefty pundit Marcotte explored the religious right’s fascination with (and perhaps exploitation of) the Duggar family and how it might change in light of the Josh Duggar sexual-abuse scandal. “The Duggars' [religious] extremism elicited admiration and maybe a little envy among the ranks” of Christian conservatives, Marcotte commented, “but perhaps now Republicans will learn a lesson about the dangers of embracing religious extremists.”

Marcotte thinks the GOP’s affinity for the Duggars exemplifies the religious right’s misogynistic race to the bottom: “Just as urban liberals compete to see who can eat the most organic food and libertarian types race to see who can have the most polluting truck, Christian conservatives compete to see who can deny women's autonomy the hardest.”

Hillary Clinton is not the incumbent president, but otherwise is in a similar position to Barack Obama’s in the spring of 2011: she’s already next year’s presumptive Democratic nominee but has, at best, an educated guess as to who her Republican opponent will be. In the meantime, recommended lefty pundit Marcotte in a Monday piece for Talking Points Memo, Hillary should decide to run as a “bitch who [gets] things done” rather than as “your mom,” an approach which fizzled for her in 2008.

“If Clinton is smart,” contended Marcotte, “she’ll put on those sunglasses and that black pantsuit and be the ladyboss we all wish we had: tough, smart, but compassionate. Soccer mom Hillary is too thirsty and it turns voters off. But ass-kicking Hillary makes people swoon. Hopefully, the campaign will pay heed to this difference.”

Government-funded contraception is a fine mantra, say liberals – but you’d better be careful to offer it in a way that shows you “respect women’s intelligence.”

In response to an Arkansas lawmaker’s proposition that Medicaid offer free surgically implanted contraception to single mothers of one child, Slate’s Amanda Marcotte said the program to cover intrauterine devices disrespects women in a piece headlined “Arkansas Legislator Says Single Mothers Should Get Free IUDs for the Sake of ‘Taxpayers.’”

When it comes to right-wingers and the Affordable Care Act, biology and race are destiny. That’s the word from lefty pundit Marcotte, who argued in a Thursday column for Talking Points Memo that the “fight against Obamacare has been about needling the gender- and race-based resentments of the conservative base.”

Jonathan Chait, Paul Waldman, and Amanda Marcotte each discuss how the Wisconsin governor and probable presidential candidate has responded to recent questions about issues including evolution, Obama’s religious beliefs, and Obama’s patriotism, as well as how his answers might play with the “paranoid” Republican base that thinks, in Waldman’s words, that “Obama is The Other, an alien presence occupying an office he doesn't deserve.”

In her Talking Points Memo column, Marcotte writes that King v. Burwell itself is ridiculous but par for the course: “Exploiting the obsessions and fantasies of rightwing cranks…has [been] the standard operating procedure of conservative leadership for decades now. But that the Supreme Court is elevating this kind of talk radio madness to the highest court in the land takes this to another level.”

On Friday’s edition of “The View,” both Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell expressed great surprise and horror at the reports from a nasty divorce that actor Stephen Collins admitted sexually abusing young girls.

This should be added to the growing list of scandals over sex abuse in liberal Hollywood. But at The Daily Beast, uber-feminist writer Amanda Marcotte tried to smear this dark new portrait of Collins all over the religious right and the Parents Television Council (founded by our MRC president Brent Bozell).

The lefty blogger claims that Christian conservatives, given the chance to protect the liberty of others to practice different faiths, “turn right back into the theocrats they always were, interested only in having government endorsement of their religion.”

Indian-American actress Mindy Kaling not only stars in her own sitcom on Fox called “The Mindy Project,” she’s in charge of it. You might think that feminists would celebrate that achievement, but that would show that you don’t know about feminists. Apparently, nothing satisfies them. Instead, they are demanding she use her program to sell feminism, and its crowning joy, abortion.

Kaling committed a gaffe among the Hollywood Left by telling a Flare magazine interviewer she had no plans to address what the magazine called “the American right’s current war on abortion.” Kaling said “It would be demeaning to the topic to talk about it in a half-hour sitcom.”

The lefty writer says conservatives are at war with reality, and they want schoolkids in the Lone Star State and elsewhere to learn illusions about American history.

Marcotte’s peg was a report from the liberal Texas Freedom Network alleging, in Marcotte’s words, “that conservatives have been able to inject a shocking number of lies and disinformation into [Texas] public school history classrooms.”

Far-left Amanda Marcotte launched her own war on women in a Thursday article for the Alternet website. Specifically, she targeted nine conservative women who, in her view, "have made a career out of opposing women's struggle for social, political and economic equality." Marcotte asserted that the nine "argue for continuing social systems that perpetuate women's inequality, male dominance, and even violence against women." The radical feminist's list of women "working tirelessly to screw over other women" included NewsBusters contributor Jill Stanek, author Christina Hoff Sommers, pro-life activist Lila Rose, and longtime conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly.
