CNN's Walsh Likens Trump's 'Radical' Supporters to ISIS

December 9th, 2015 1:19 PM

Appearing on Wednesday's New Day on CNN to discuss reaction in other countries to Donald Trump's proposal to ban immigration into the U.S. by Muslims, CNN Senior International Correspondent Nick Paton Walsh described Trump supporters as being a "radical part of a wing" that is similar to "the same radical ideology ISIS is to the Muslim faith."

At about 6:55 a.m., after co-host Alisyn Camerota asked, "Nick, you're based in the Middle East. What's the feeling there?" the CNN corresondent began his analysis:

I think, frankly, the Middle East is looking for American leadership, those who cared to listen to what the U.S. said. And, remember, we had a keynote speech from Obama on Sunday evening. Who's talking about that now? That's absolutely vanished.

Then came his over the top likening of Trump supporters to ISIS as he added:

The only thing being discussed now is this quite remarkably offensive notion. And I think those in the Middle East who look to the United States as a symbol of some kind of better ideology will be deeply offended by this. I think they may understand this is a radical part of a wing frankly similar to the same radical ideology ISIS is to the Muslim faith. It's just not necessarily going to assist anybody on a moderate faith who thinks they can look to the U.S. for any leadership in the next month or so.
