The libertine Left has done a lot of boasting over the last several years about the inevitability of History vanquishing every corner of American social conservatism. Election Day 2015 was a terrible day for these revolutionaries, as so often it is when it’s the American people, not liberal elites, making the decisions. Let's assess the damage.

After the November 2014 midterm elections, I wrote that "Despite all of their supposed science, improved methodologies, and sophisticated turnout models, nation’s pollsters have just suffered through their worst midterm elections drubbing in 20 years. The last time they were off this badly was when they woefully underestimated Republican gains in the Newt Gingrich 'Contract with America' midterms of 1994." I also predicted that "If they’re right from now on, it will it only be by accident."
Very few, if any, such "accidents" occurred this year. In key contests, double-digit and worse variances from polled predictions were the norm.

The day after voters in Houston, Texas defeated a measure dubbed by many to be “the bathroom bill” aimed at “protecting” gay and transgender people from discrimination, Wednesday’s CBS Evening News lit into those who overwhelmingly opposed the measure by touting fears of Houston businesses being boycotted and even the 2017 Super Bowl being moved out of the city due to this measure’s failure to pass.

Friday's Erin Burnett Outfront on CNN ran a report by correspondent Ed Lavendera focusing on negative reaction to a new law in Texas that will allow concealed carry permit holders over age 21 to bring their guns onto college campuses to enhance security.
The report was heavily slanted toward airing the views of those who wish to keep colleges as gun-free zones as Lavendera included six soundbites totaling 44 seconds from opponents of the law, with only two soundbites totaling 12 seconds from those who want to allow guns on campus. One of the only two soundbites on the pro-gun side was only about one second long.

In its ongoing coverage of the sheriff’s deputy from Harris County, Texas being shot Friday night outside a gas station, Monday’s edition of the CBS Evening News criticized the slain officer’s boss for making “controversial statements” about the Black Lives Matter movement that “some have called...insensitive.”

Baptist-affiliated Baylor University has elected to change language in its student sexual conduct policy such that it removes a ban on "homosexual acts" while maintaining that "the biblical understanding that human sexuality is a gift from God." and that sexual affections are to "be expressed in the context of marital fidelity."
This move seems to meet at least the begrudging approval of of the liberal-leaning Houston Chronicle's Benjamin Wermund, who laments that in the past Baylor "has at times been slow to change with the world around it, fearing the wrath of fundamentalists."

A terse, five-paragraph June 14 Associated Press report on the results of San Antonio's mayoral election the previous day gave no indication of the party affiliation or political outlook of the winner or loser.
Readers could only determine that the winner, Ivy Taylor, became "the first African-American elected to the post," which of course had to mean that the handpicked candidate to succeed Julian Castro, who left to the post to become President Obama's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, had triumphed. But it didn't. The AP report gave no indication that the Democrats' handpicked Hispanic candidate had lost a race they thought they were on track to win six weeks earlier.
