On today's Morning Joe, reacting to comments from a focus group of Iowa Republicans who were less concerned about Jeb Bush's policy positions and more concerned about his last name, Deutsch declaimed "I don't mean to sound elitist but it's astounding how ignorant people are."
With David Letterman officially signing off as host of CBS’s Late Show on Wednesday, the liberal comic took time once again to bash Republicans for their support of traditional marriage during his Monday night monologue.
If you were to believe Chris Matthews, his fellow Catholic, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) has recently stated his support for traditional marriage only because he's "looking out for his right flank." Among the evidences? Well, Bush told the Christian Broadcasting Network that he believes marriage is a "sacrament." Of course, that is the official teaching of the Catholic Church, and supposedly believed by Catholics of all political stripes, Mr. Matthews included.
To MSNBC's Emma Margolin, it's "troubling" that former Florida governor Jeb Bush doesn't think there's a constitutional right for persons to enter into a same-sex marriage. But what's even more "troubling" to her is his defense of religious freedom claims when it comes to Christian business owners being asked to cater, plan, or photograph a same-sex wedding ceremony.
CNN's Chris Cuomo asserted that Jeb Bush "doesn't seem to be the new Republican" on Monday's New Day, after the former Florida governor voiced his support of traditional marriage during a recent interview on CBN. Cuomo later underlined that Bush is "going to have to figure out how to please the plurality" on the marriage issue, and added that "this is not a well-calculated move on that front."
Friday's NBC Nightly News picked up where Today left off earlier in the day by hyping former Florida Governor Jeb Bush's "long week," after his Monday remark that he would have authorized an invasion of Iraq if he had been president in 2003. Lester Holt echoed Savannah Guthrie in underling that Bush has "struggled since then to put daylight between him and his brother's legacy on Iraq." He also asserted that Karl Rove's refusal to endorse him during his interview on Today was "another potential blow...to Bush's White House ambitions."
It's easy for people--with the possible exception of Jeb Bush--to say that they would not have supported the invasion of Iraq knowing what we know now about WMD there.
But Chris Matthews took things a foolish step further on this evening's Hardball, actually claiming that "there was no intelligence they had a weapon. Never was." Really? So Hillary, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore, Ted Kennedy et al. were collective fabricators when they issued dire warnings, based on the intelligence they had seen, about Saddam's WMD?
On Friday's CNN Newsroom, liberal anchor Carol Costello actually didn't buy the spin of a Hillary Clinton supporter on her skirting of questions from the press. When Democratic strategist Robert Zimmerman did his best to shield Mrs. Clinton, Costello interjected, "I want our political candidates to take tough questions." She later underlined that "she's not answering questions! About her foundation – there are really important issues out there that she needs to address!" Costello later complimented Jeb Bush: "At least he's out there answering hard questions!"
New York Times political reporter Michael Barbaro made print with his gushy mini-profile of Ivy Ziedrich, the Young Democrat turned instant left-wing heroine for her testy exchange with Jeb Bush over ISIS and his brother's presidential legacy: "Student Who Stood Up To Debate ISIS With Bush."
Keeping up NBC's extensive coverage of Jeb Bush answering questions about the Iraq war, on Friday's Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie proclaimed: "And it's been a rocky week for all-but-declared presidential hopeful Jeb Bush as he grapples with the shadow of his brother's Iraq war policy. During a town hall in Arizona, he clarified his position for the fourth time this week on the question, 'Would he have taken the country to war?'"
On Thursday night, the major English-language broadcast networks again covered possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush’s comments about the Iraq War and featured ABC and NBC omitting the fact that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton voted to authorize the Iraq War when she was a U.S. Senator. Additionally, all three network evening newscasts continued to ignore how Hillary Clinton has yet to answer a question from the press in over three weeks and only 13 questions total since she launched her campaign on April 12.
On Thursday’s CBS This Morning, soon-to-be Face the Nation moderator John Dickerson blasted Jeb Bush for his handling of questions about the Iraq War and whether or not he would have authorized the invasion knowing what we know now.
