While Chris Cuomo worried out loud on Friday about The New York Times questioning an excessive focus on the religion inspiring ISIS when they resort to rape, the same concern about stereotypes didn’t come up pseudo-Catholic Cuomo for the Catholic-bashing front of The Washington Post. In “Pope urged to address clergy sex abuse in visit,” religion correspondent Michelle Boorstein repeats the never-ending stream of allegations that the Vatican has never done enough to appease critics and accusers and their trial lawyers on commission. 

It’s quite a contrast with the Post’s Weekend section, where film critic Ann Hornaday is praising the new movie Diary of a Teenage Girl (four stars out of four stars!), where a 15-year-old girl is seduced by a 35-year-old “man-child” who’s dating her mother. Online the headline called it "funny, forthright, and daringly frank." Since there’s no organized global religion involved, the child abuser “isn’t so much the villain of this piece as one more misguided seeker whom [filmmaker Marielle] Heller treats with more amused compassion than disdain.”

Washington Post religion reporter Michelle Boorstein relayed on Saturday that Reform Judaism is revising their prayer book, and there are some doozy additions. They are the "vanguard" of American religion. The Post pulled out this shocker: "My LORD is not a shepherd and I am not his sheep, No monarch greedy for my praise is worthy of my prayers."

One Post headline was “Avant-gardism for Reform Judaism.” Another headline could be “Religion evolves into rejecting God as....important, or special.”

The meeting next week between President Obama and Pope Francis is a meeting of a moderate and a leftist, reports The Washington Post. Obama’s the moderate. But it has “huge potential” for “two world figures” to forge a mind-meld on “social justice.”

Washington Post religion reporter Michelle Boorstein’s article is transparently, thoroughly a press release on Obama’s behalf. All of its sources, on the record and off, are liberal Obama aides and sympathizers. “Some said the trip would be only positive for Obama for several reasons,” and then Boorstein lists them. No tough words on abortion, marriage, or Obama mandating that Catholics pay for contraception? “Most Vatican-watchers” guess it will never come up:

The Washington Post offered a balance of experts in their story on the new apostolic exhortation published by Pope Francis -- including Ed Morrissey of Hot Air -- even as they were impressed at how Francis used “trickle-down” like a liberal Democrat. The “direct reference to 'trickle-down' economics in the English translation of his statement is striking,” confessed reporters Zachary Goldfarb and Michelle Boorstein.

But demonstrating the liberal media’s dual tendency to praise Francis and slam his predecessor Pope Benedict, Goldfarb and Boorstein uncorked a sentence that is factually false:

The Washington Post's religion writers have been hard at work of late to boost the religious left's push for more stringent gun control legislation. On Thursday, for example, Post religion writer Michelle Boorstein treated readers of the paper's Metro section with a puffy front-page item celebrating the pulpit-pounding for gun control from the likes of the dean of the Episcopal Church's National Cathedral, Rev. Gary Hall, a self-described "left-wing Democrat." Hall has cravenly lumped gun control in with the message of the Christian gospel, using liberal applause lines like "I believe the gun lobby is no match for the cross lobby."

Two days later, the Post's Lisa Miller -- most famous for arguing that Christian Scripture is pro-same-sex marriage -- devoted a column to attacking Christians who are pro-gun rights, headlined, "The link between gun rights and the Gospels? It's still missing." The online edition is headlined "Is gun ownership Christian?" Miller began thusly:
