Dems Threaten Anti-Iran Rally Organizers With IRS Attack if They Let Palin Speak

News has emerged that the organizers of that anti-Iran rally that famously got snarled up in Senator Hillary Clinton's ire at Governor Sarah Palin last week were threatened by New York Democrats with IRS action against their tax-exempt status if they allowed Palin to speak. CBS local NY news reported this little fact and so did NBC but most of the national news has ignored this outrageous threat to use the IRS to silence Governor Palin.

Accusing New York Democrats of using "McCarthyism" to shut Palin down, Democrat Assemblyman Dov Hikind was flabbergasted by the behind the scenes threats against the rally organizers. "It's an absolute shame that this has happened," CBS quoted Hikind as saying. "To threaten organizations … to threaten the Conference of Presidents that if you don't withdraw the invitation to Gov. Palin we're going to look into your tax exempt status … that's McCarthyism."

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

The charge was that inviting only Palin and not also Democrat VP candidate Joe Biden is somehow a violation of "equal representation of candidates" (As NBC claimed in its report). But, this is not a certainty. After all, the appearance wasn't a campaign stop nor was it a venue to advertise Palin or engage in presidential politics. Besides, as HotAir notes, of the political speakers that were invited to speak last year, few were Republicans.

The real story here, though, is that Democrats immediately leapt to using the IRS as a weapon against the rally organizers. Along with the attacks on talk radio host Milt Rosenberg (here and here) it is becoming clear that Democrats are not interested in free speech, but will turn to threats and attacks to get their way to silence dissenting views or opposing party representatives.

It should be remembered that this rally was a pro-Israel rally meant to highlight the oppression and evil of Iran and its president Ahmadinejad. This was NOT a forum for American politics, but a show of support for Israel. Additionally, how is it this organization's fault that Hillary canceled her appearance? After all, the rally folks did invite Hillary and Palin. It isn't their fault that Hillary didn't have the guts to show!

It would seem to me that the news of a political party trying to use the IRS to shut down their opponents would be somewhat newsworthy? Yet, we haven't heard this story on the national scene at all. Would we have heard about it if it were Republicans trying to use threats of the IRS in such a manner?

What do you think?

Nice rhetorical question Mr. H.

Would we have heard about it if it were Republicans trying to use threats of the IRS in such a manner?

What do you think?

The odds that we wouldn't are more astronomical than that of winnin the Powerball.

This has real potential though for the Republicans if those "New York Democrats" have any direct ties to Barry.

Oh, and are they dumb enough to piss off the Jewish powerbrokers up there in NY? Talk about a death wish.....geez.

Great post Mr. H!

Again, Typical

How many Conservative organizations protested during the DNC?

How many Leftist organizations protested during the RNC?

The attacks by the 0bama Campaign itself on Milt Rosenberg's Extension 720 radio show were just plain attempted government censorship.  0bama is a U.S. Senator and he tried to shut down the free speech of American citizens on an American radio station by using his influence as a representative of the U.S. government. Where is the media's outrage?  Where is the government's outrage?  Who, if anyone, is controlling 0bama and his treasonous acts?  (His 'chat' during his trip to Iraq, his altering the Great Seal of the U.S.) Who is going to control the Left when they step over the line that 'one time too many'?

Since the Socialists and Communists took over the news and entertainment media everything is up for grabs.  Unless, of course, if you are a Conservative.  Then your fate is pre-sealed.

The hypocrite Democrats

The hypocrite Democrats whine and moan about anything Republican or conservative as well as Bush and Rove. They are easily 10 times worse than any Republican would even think of being. The only thing the Democrats stands for is POWER and only POWER at any and all costs.

"Forget change, I want improvement!"

Conservatives don't protest...

Conservatives don't protest... We have to go to work.

After all, the rally

After all, the rally folks did invite Hillary and Palin.

Yes, and by their own admission, they invited Clinton (and she accepted) months ago, when she was still running as candidate for the Presidential nomination.

Apparently equal representation didn't matter then because, had it done so, they would have also invited the the all-but-convention-confirmed Republican nominee, John McCain.

But they didn't. Isn't that odd?

Palin should turn up anyway, in the crowd, as an ordinary American citizen expressing her first amendment rights to free speech in protesting the totaltitarian Iranian regime.

Now that's how you stick it in the Democrats eye.

I truly pray that all conservatives who still have massive reservations about John McCain, turn out on Nov 4 and vote Republican.

I am seriously worried about the direction an Obama led movement is heading regarding any dissent to THEM when they hold all the levers of power and control.

The Republicans regularly stand with Israel.  We always will.

Meanwhile, like the battered woman wanting so very much to believe "he really does love me", the Jewish community is used time and again for the selfish pleasure of the Democrats.

If it's not something piddling like Hillary calling her husband's campaign manager a "Jew bastard", it's something more serious like breaking a date with the Republican candidate because it was only an attempt to get the attention of the Democrats anyway.

It is completely evident that American Jewry has very little in common with their brothers and sisters on the Mediterranean.  Sure, they send money, but their hearts are not invested in Israel's security.

I agree, it is puzzling. But from what I've been reading recently from conservative Jewish pundits and voters, there are perceptible shifts amongst the folks, if not so much by the "leaders," as explified by the craven kowtowing to the Democrats by the protest organizers.

You should read the posts from Jews on the official website. They are excoriating the craven "Presidents" in huge numbers.

Cannot Blame The Media

This was clearly the work of the Obama campaign.

The fact that this is not in the national media is not not just the fault of the MSM, it is equally the fault of the McCain campaign and in particular the McCain Jewish advisory committee as well as the Republican Jewish Coalition for not screaming this and forcing it onto the front pages.

The Democratic JINOs once and for all need to be exposed for who they are and the anti-Semite they are supporting.

This was clearly the work

This was clearly the work of the Obama campaign.

I agree with that sentiment entirely. But we really have to avoid falling into the trap of blaming our own side equally.

Blame McCain for things within his orbit, but come on. Blaming him because the MSM is pretty much deaf to Republicans across the board. That's too much.

He can't force stories on to the front page at any time. But in a week which saw the US teeter on the edge of complete financial meltdown?

We need some perspective here. And a reality check. We know the Reps are not going to get a fair shake. Look at how the MSM spun the outrageous itheft of Palin's personal data into a slime that SHE was the one breaking the law.

If conservatives and Republicans could force their side of stories onto the front pages, then we wouldn't need NB.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Yes you can

Where are the Jewish GOP lawmakers? Or well known Jewish GOP activists? You have no chance of being recognized in the MSM if you don't speak up because then there is nothing to write about.

We have given Obama a pass on Jeremiah Wright - a 20 year association that should have disqualified anyone else from a nomination. Obama opposed the Kyl-Lieberman amendment and nothing is being said about that fact now. In his O'Reilly interview Obama was careful not to categorize Iran as a sponsor of terrorism.

I have called on Jewish GOP leaders to decry what just transpired, but as always, there is only silence.

Sad when the only Senator you could count on to say and do what's right in this instance would be a Democrat.

"Read my lips. I would not be anybody's Vice President" - Joe Biden 08/07

You're right

Lieberman is the only Jewish politician campaigning for McCain to Jewish voters.

We should not complain when we find Jewish people still recklessly supporting Democratic candidiates, when we are standing silently by at a time when they have a candidate who does not deserve a single Jewish vote.

Can NOT agree with that!

Sorry, Gat, but when the people whose whole stated reason for existence is to report the news, ignoring and slanting that news is their fault, primarily and pretty much solely.

Sure, things can be done to fight it. But in no way does the fact that there are "others" to take up the fight relieve those with the primary declared "responsibility" of their obligations. If the MSM want to claim they are there to spin the news to advance the liberal agenda, you may have a point. But they don't. They claim they are "unbiased" and "watchdogs" and "the voice of the people." That kind of talk doesn't come cheap, it comes with responsibility. Their responsibility, their fault. Not mine, nor yours, nor McCain's.

As an example, if the police can't or won't protect you, you obviously have the right to protect yourself. But that doesn't mean you are "equally at fault" for the failure of the police.

I don't buy it, not even at half-price. Just because it's predictable and endemic does not make it excusable.

Saul Alinsky would be proud

When organizations allow threats like this to make them drop a speaker,
the result is that we all lose freedom.  An IRS investigation would be
a good thing for which to solicit FIRE support.

Use of the Government to shut down free speech is a typical approach taken by the Alinsky trainee (and both Hillary and Barack are Alinsky trainees).  The only thing that Alinsky didn't like about free speech was when someone else used it.

"What experience and history teach is

Government Orginization being used...

to curtail a private entities rally....hmmm...did we just jump into a time machine and warp back to 1938 Germany....or the sixties Cuba, or better yet the current Venezueala...

Nope saddly it is in our own country...the land of the faux free...that this is occuring.

That is the biggest reason these ding dongs we elect will never get the Fair Tax approved and passed. It takes their power away.

I know Democrats why don't you require everyone to go get a barcode and a number tatooed on them to better keep track of everyone.....wait we are half way there.....we all have SS #'s.

This is Obama and this is his ilk. But  yet you still have people supporting him. SAD.

I thought this was already

I thought this was already settled.

Palin was "disinvited" from the rally days ago.

Jewish groups sponsoring the rally in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on Monday said Palin was knocked off the speakers' list to keep the event nonpartisan, not to placate Clinton. [hahaha]

"In
order to keep the focus on Iranian threats and to ensure that this
critical message not be obscured, the organizers of the rally have
decided not to have any American political personalities appear," the
Stop Iran Now coalition said in a statement.

However it started, and whatever the reason, neither Palin, Clinton, or any other politician is going to speak.

These  "NY Democrats" are making waves over a moot point, just to get attention.

I do agree that it;s not surprising that their first line of attack is the IRS.  After all, that's their default threat against churches (unless, or course, it's a black church and a Democrat politician is campaigning there).

Which brings up another rhetorical question:  Would they have threatened the Stop Iran Now group only  if Sen. Clinton were speaking?

By Any Means Necessary

"I do agree that it;s not surprising that their first line of attack is
the IRS. After all, that's their default threat against churches"

They are getting more crafty. When the IRS won't cooperate, they will use Republican Senators. Look at Senator Grassley making wild charges against the Evangelical Six and asking them to show their financial records to Congress.

I would not go off that deep end just yet, however bad it looks (I see the creeping socialism also). McCain is the best we've got this time around. He's no Ronald Reagan by a long shot, but our primary goal is to defeat O-Bummer and the Brown Stains.  That's it; we have no other choices.

I hope that conservatives will vote and NOT stay at home on November 4th in a show of protest.  A non-vote is a vote for O-bummer, and we need every vote we can get against him.

Is it because WE all know the truth?  We here at NB can all keep saying 'atta boy' and a pat on the back saying 'keep your chin up' but ..SOMEONE TELL ME I'M WRONG!!!  I WANNA LISTEN!!!   but I keep feeling like one of the fatalities on the Titanic...I hear 'KEEP SWIMMING, THERES A BOAT ON THE WAY'....THERE IS NO BOAT!!!!!!!!!

Easy there, Paul

Look, I'm actually more encouraged than I was a month ago. I look at how frantic the Left is since the Republican convention, and I know why they're scared. They are about to lose the "gimme" election they've thought they had since 2004. They thought THAT was a "gimme," and they were wrong.

Palin (yes, Palin) has energized the base, all those who thought "Oh, not McCAIN!" I was one of them. We had McCain foisted on us by the MSM and the Dems. Where do you think Rush got the idea for "Operation Chaos?" I like Rush, but he reported how the Dems did the very thing in 2000, trying to stick us with McCain then. He won Michigan due to Dems, IIRC.

Look how scared the Libs are of Palin. Why are they going after the #2 on the ticket? Why are the trolls here so intent on proving she's the "wrong" choice? They should be happy we have a "loser," right? Why all this talk of her "inexperience" and "naivete?" Any sane person would realize that Obama shouldn't even bring up "inexperience," hell, he's the "new guy!" "Change," right? That's supposed to be a point in his favor! How can he now turn it into a negative for Palin?

The answer, to me, is like an animal caught in a trap. It will gnaw it's own leg off in it's desperation to escape. The libs are so scared that Palin will (does!) show them up for what they are, will get so many "normal" Americans to vote McCain, that they have lost all reason in their flailing to hold on to what was supposed to be a "slam dunk" victory. I consider the election almost a foregone conclusion. Now, I'm just hoping for the coattails.

So, be of good cheer. With 6 weeks to go, it's all trending against Obama. The more they flail, the less effective it is.

So, the IRS can be used to prevent free speech?

I did not know that. And to think we could have silenced liberals long ago. Too bad ACORN, Rainbow Coalition, and ACLU won't be among the protesters.

Jewish Hillary

When Hillary first came to New York City to campaign for the Senator position, she said "I recently found out that I'm part Jewish". If she is part Jewish, and I think that if is as huge as the Grand Canyon, she should be supporting pro-Israel campaigns such as this.

I don't care how many Jews

I don't care how many Jews are in one's extended family; one can't be "part Jewish."

They most certainly can,

They most certainly can, mb....

Being Jewish is more than a religion. It's a culture. The concept is very similar, in fact, to being part Black.

While not participating in the Jewish religion, I've been somewhat exposed to the Jewish culture. My paternal grandparents were observant Jews, so we celebrated chanukah.

My maternal grandmother was Catholic (I know the jokes.... an priest and a rabbi walk into....), so we celebrated Christmas. My dad cooked the BIGGEST Christmas feast while we were out at midnight mass growing up....

So, while you can't be part of two different religions, as that would constitute a third religion, you CAN be part of two separate cultures, mixed to bring a third culture, and celebrate as if you were, in fact, part jewish. It's not just a religion.

Fascism is a religious conception in which man is seen in his imminent relationship with a superior law and with an objective will that transcends the particular individual - Mussolini

Maybe the confusion comes

Maybe the confusion comes from "Hebrew" versus "Jewish." Generally, they seem to be used interchangeably.

Sammy Davis Jr. converted to Judaism, but he was not ethnically Hebrew.

Ethnicity as opposed to religiosity. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.    ;^)

"... smells like... victory." - Robert Duvall

They Needed a PAC

If the anti-Iran rally organizers had only formed a PAC, then the creeps on the left couldn't threaten their tax-exempt status for merely inviting Palin.  As Noel S. pointed out recently NOW has endorsed Obama-Biden . . . but if you read the fine print, the official endorsement comes from NOW-PAC, not NOW, thereby avoiding any tax challenges.

WOW

Hasn't it been clear for ages that the effete snobs in the Democrat party will use any means to silence those they don't want to hear? Just look at what Barry and the brown shorts are doing to the Chicago radio station WGN-AM ...

THE KGB OF THE LEFT

If anyone has any doubts that if nobama gets the presidency and the dummycrats have a filbuster proof majority in congress that this kind of stalinist tactic will become standard operating procedure then they are living in a fools paradise!

Demo Version of Free Speech

So this is the Democrat's version of freedom of speech. Should be interesting if Obama gets in and some of the people who voted him in get tired and dissent.  They keep complaining at how Bush stole their freedom of speech, yet I haven't seen them shut up even once. Should be interesting indeed. I hope we conservatives won't have to resort to "pitchforks and torches" when we want to speak under an Obama administration.

Ho-hum...

This is like so yesterday...

Doesn't anybody recall that every conservative organization/magazine, every prominent critic on the right, and all the females with less than complimentary things to say about Clinton's inability to keep it zipped were audited by the IRS? You didn't see that on the nightly news? No? I wonder why.

And for all of you out there too young to remember, one of the most damning charges against Nixon was that on tape, he was heard threatening to sic the IRS on his critics. There wasn't a shred of evidence that he had actually done so; didn't make a bit of difference though because he was a pseudo-Republican (sort of).

People who favor brownshirts are not shy about using the full force of government to silence their critics.

Yeah, the "Enemies List"

Yeah, the "Enemies List" was a big deal for Nixon, wasn't it?

Not so much a problem anymore, though....

What's new?

Slick Willie's regime (specifically Shrillary) used the FBI and IRS to go after and punish anyone who dared speak against their criminal enterprises. Thousands of FBI files on individuals in Shrillary's office and thousands of 'audits' of people who opposed the regime. McCarthy is a four letter word to liberals because he was correct about communist infiltration in Washington and Hollywood.

Dems threaten IRS attack

Normally, I admire how the Council  of Presidents handles itself. However, in this case there response to such a threat displayed poor judgment. They should of, using verifiable proof, outed the Democrats for using such tactics. In other words, they should of shined the light of day on the Democrats.

Through their lack of courage, all they accomplished was to ensure that news coverage of their event was minimal, therefore, hurting their cause.
