Fiorina Parries Failure to Register .org Domain by Buying SethMeyers.org Just Before Her 'Late Night' Appearance

May 7th, 2015 11:36 AM

In what is certainly not the most consequential development in presidential politics but nonetheless a fun moment, recently declared Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina decisively one-upped NBC Late Night host Seth Meyers, who seems to have thought he could inflict a bit of harm on the former tech CEO's credibility.

In an era where dot-whatever domains have proliferated, Fiorina's failure to register CarlyFiorina.org really isn't the snafu it would have been several years ago, but it's still embarrassing. Not, however, as embarrassing as how Fiorina turned the tables on Meyers.

In the video below, Fiorina appears to play possum a bit in the beginning, looking a bit chastened and even complimenting the person who registered the domain. Then watch her turn it around.

Transcript (bolds are mine):

Seth Meyers: I bring this up because you have a tech background, obviously, Hewlett Packard. You, um, CarlyFiorina.org, this came out, uh, you did not register this domain.

Carly Fiorina: Mm-hmm.

Meyers: So right now, uh, someone else has registered the domain, and if you go there, it, uh, talks about how many people you laid off at Hewlett Packard and has a bunch of, uh, sort of upside-down, uh —

Fiorina: Frowny faces.

Meyers: Frowny faces. Yeah.

Fiorina: It's kind of funny, actually.

Meyers: Yeah, it's pretty funny.

Fiorina: It's funny.

Meyers: Uh, and that's good, so you have a sense of humor about that.

Fiorina: Yes. Do you know who owns SethMeyers.org?

Meyers: Certainly, I have no idea.

Fiorina: I do.

Meyers: You do?

Fiorina: I do. I just bought it in the green room actually.

Meyers: Just bought it in the green room.

Fiorina: So you better be really nice to me tonight.

Meyers: Oh my goodness.

Fiorina: Really I did, I just bought it. So —

Meyers: You've got that kind of scratch?

Fiorina: Actually, it was really cheap, Seth, I hate to tell you.

Meyers: Really?

Fiorina: Yeah.

Meyers: That's heartbreaking. That is heartbreaking. Well, uh, you know what, I'm gonna start laying people off, so you have something to put on it. Thank you so much for being here. It's been such a pleasure.

Fiorina: It's great to be with you.

Meyers: Good luck for the long road ahead.

Fiorina: Thank you.

Meyers: Carly Fiorina, everyone.

Nicely played, Carly.

Meyers handled it well, and probably better than most late-night hosts would have. He even posted the video on his own YouTube site.

SethMeyers.org now forwards to CarlyForPresident.com.

Opinions vary on Fiorina's candidacy, but as Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds has noted several times, you have to appreciate the fact that "she fights."
