Al Gore Getting Rich Spreading Global Warming Hysteria With Media’s Help

Photo of Noel Sheppard.

Americans willing to look at the manmade global warming debate with any degree of impartiality and honesty are well aware that those spreading the hysteria have made a lot of money doing so, and stand to gain much more if governments mandate carbon dioxide emissions reductions.

In fact, just two months ago, ABC News.com estimated soon-to-be-Nobel Laureate Al Gore's net worth at $100 million, which isn't bad considering that he was supposedly worth about $1 million when he watched George W. Bush get sworn in as president in January 2001.

Talk about your get-rich-quick schemes, how'd you like to increase your net worth 10,000 percent in less than seven years?

Fortunately for the world's foremost warm-monger - a term I'd love to see become part of the parlance concerning what, in the long run, will likely be viewed as the greatest con ever perpetrated on the American people - his current wealth represents a mere pittance of what it will be if governments around the world are scared into all of his preposterous recommendations.

With that in mind, Deborah Corey Barnes published a marvelous piece at Human Events Wednesday that would be rather sobering for folks on both sides of the aisle if only a global warming obsessed media would be willing to share the information with the citizenry (emphasis added throughout):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Al Gore's campaign against global warming is shifting into high gear. Reporters and commentators follow his every move and bombard the public with notice of his activities and opinions. But while the mainstream media promote his ideas about the state of planet Earth, they are mostly silent about the dramatic impact his economic proposals would have on America. And journalists routinely ignore evidence that he may personally benefit from his programs. Would the romance fizzle if Gore's followers realized how much their man stands to gain?

Of course it would, Deborah. That's why media have largely been mute on this matter.

With that as pretext, Barnes addressed Gore's cap-and-trade carbon scheme, and how he is well-positioned to benefit if governments across the globe implement it:

Al Gore is chairman and founder of a private equity firm called Generation Investment Management (GIM). According to Gore, the London-based firm invests money from institutions and wealthy investors in companies that are going green. "Generation Investment Management, purchases -- but isn't a provider of -- carbon dioxide offsets," said spokesman Richard Campbell in a March 7 report by CNSNews.

GIM appears to have considerable influence over the major carbon-credit trading firms that currently exist: the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) in the U.S. and the Carbon Neutral Company (CNC) in Great Britain. CCX is the only firm in the U.S. that claims to trade carbon credits.

[...]

Clearly, GIM is poised to cash in on carbon trading. The membership of CCX is currently voluntary. But if the day ever comes when federal government regulations require greenhouse-gas emitters -- and that's almost everyone -- to participate in cap-and-trade, then those who have created a market for the exchange of carbon credits are in a position to control the outcomes. And that moves Al Gore front and center. As a politician, Gore is all for transparency. But as GIM chairman, Gore has not been forthcoming, according to Forbes magazine. Little is known about his firm's finances, where it gets funding and what projects it supports.

After addressing how intimately tied to the investment firm Goldman Sachs Gore and his GIM associates are, Barnes presented further nefarious connections that make Ken Lay's Enron network in the '90s look almost amateurish:

We do know that Goldman Sachs has commissioned the World Resources Institute (affiliated with CCX), Resources for the Future, and the Woods Hole Research Center to research policy options for U.S. regulation of greenhouse gases. In 2006, Goldman Sachs provided research grants in this area totaling $2.3 million. The firm also has committed $1 billion to carbon-assets projects, a fancy term for projects that generate energy from sources other than oil and gas. In October 2006, Morgan Stanley committed to invest $3 billion in carbon-assets projects. Citigroup entered the emissions-trading market in May, and Bank of America got in on the action in June.
Some environmentalist groups disparage Gore and his investment banker friends. They say the Gore group caters to others who share their financial interest in the carbon-exchange concept. The bulletin of the World Rainforest Movement says that members of a United Nations-sponsored group called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stand to gain by approving Gore's carbon-trading enterprise. The IPCC has devised what it says is a scientific measure of the impact of greenhouse gases on global warming. In fact, the critics charge, the IPCC sanctions a mechanism that mainly promotes the sham concept of carbon exchange.
The global non-profit organization Winrock International is an example of one IPCC panel member that seeks out groups and individuals with an interest in carbon trading. Arkansas-based Winrock provides worldwide "carbon-advisory services." Winrock has received government grants from the EPA, USAID and the Departments of Labor, State and Commerce, as well as from the Nature Conservancy (whose chairman used to be Henry Paulson). Winrock argues that cap-and-trade carbon trading is the best way to prevent a climate change crisis. But consider this: When a non-profit group takes money from oil companies and advocates drilling for oil as a solution to energy shortages, it is certain to be attacked as a tool of Big Oil. So far, the groups linked to Al Gore have avoided similar scrutiny.

Why is that? Why does everything Gore is involved in avoid government and media scrutiny?

While you ponder, there's more:

In June 2006, the World Bank announced that it, too, had joined CCX, saying that it intended to offset its greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing emission credits through CCX. The bank says its credits would contribute to restoring 4,600 hectares of degraded pastureland in Costa Rica. Somehow, CCX has figured out that this is an amount equivalent to 22,000 metric tons of emission that the bank calculates are created by its activities.

A World Bank blog called the Private Sector Development Blog regularly features items touting Al Gore and the concept of carbon credits. Its articles typically announce corporate "green" initiatives in which carbon credits are said to cancel out "bad" CO2 emissions released by a company's activities.

In fact, the World Bank now operates a Carbon Finance Unit that conducts research on how to develop and trade carbon credits. The bank works with Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain to set up carbon-credit funds in each country to purchase emission credits from firms for use in developing countries. In addition, it runs the Carbon Fund for Europe helping countries meet their Kyoto Protocol requirements. These funds are traded on the ECX (half of which is owned by CCX, itself a creature of Al Gore's firm, Generation Investment Management). Can we connect the dots?

[...]

So it seems banks and investment houses are going green, eager to enter an emerging emissions market. Meanwhile, environmentalists are discovering new ways to get rich while believing they are saving polar bears and rainforests.

Add it all up, Al Gore really is perpetrating a scheme that could end up being much more costly to Americans than anything Ken Lay did. As if that's not bad enough, our media are totally complicit rather than doing their jobs exposing the scam.

I don't know about you, but suddenly I need another shower.

My brother is actually

My brother is actually spending $150 to take his wife and son to the Al Gore appearance here in Albuquerque. He offered to buy me a ticket. I told him yes please - I was out of paper. Mind you he does nothing Gore recommends to fight Global Warming, other than give him $150. Grrrrrr. Then, I find out that one of co-workers mother is a staffer for Al Gore. Help, I'm surrounded!

How cynical of you

How cynical of you Noel!

Well done!

Funny, but...

"Talk about your get-rich-quick schemes, how'd you like to increase your net worth 10,000 percent in less than seven years?" is exactly what I say about a certain frontrunning RINO Presidential-candidate, too...

we will TM, we will:)

we will TM, we will:)

But that's just the

But that's just the beginning Noel.  Al is no dummy as much as we would characterize him to be.  Consider this:   A number of companies are poised to submit plans to the NRC for nuclear power plants in the US.  I would like to point out an ironic if not conspiratorial view of the entire situation personified by Al Gore, the AGWer in Chief.  What State was Al Gore Senator of?  What is this State known for in terms of producing electricity?  What entity is Al Gore a known benefactor for in this State?  What companies have a financial stake in nuclear power and who are the investors?  Does Occidental Petroleum have a stake in nuclear power?  http://www.oxy.com/BUSINESSES/energy_mkt.htm

I submit the following Machiavellian conspiracy theory for your amusement.  Al Gore wanted to break the log jam on nuclear power, what better way to break that log jam of blind hatred by environmentalists than to redirect their opposition to a more immediate threat?  Coal, oil and natural gas are the only viable immediate alternatives to nuclear power in terms of generating electricity.  Solar and Wind are too immature of technologies and costly to produce large scale electrical generation.  I submit that Al Gore found the ideal manner in which to motivate environmentalists by making CO2 the villain around which they could rally to fight instead of nuclear power.  The environmental movement willingly and in some cases unwittingly signed on to this campaign because the US already achieved the objectives of clean air and water and thus they were loosing membership and a motivating force to remain relevant.  This is btw similar to the Jena 6 affair with Al Sharpton trying to keep Black victim hood alive to stay relevant.  Does anyone really think Al Gore is that stupid as not to recognize AGW theory is not viable? Think about it, if he truly believed in it, he would have championed solar and wind from the very beginning and would have installed solar panels decades ago without the prompting of critics just recently. Why would Mann intentionally try to eliminate the well documented Medieval Warming and Little Ice Age in the Hockey Stick?  Why would Hansen knowingly falsify the temperature record via unsupportable adjustments of the US to promote Global Warming?  Why would Hansen and others totally neglect the temperature recording stations collecting data so as not to properly document their status in order to make the proper adjustments for UHI effect to those stations?  Why is it taking an all volunteer effort of Anthony Watts with www.Surfacestation.org to document the status of all the temperature recording stations, when clearly this is the responsibility of NOAA and GISS?  Do you ever wonder why Al Gore is strangely silent on nuclear power when it is the most obvious solution to the so called AGW problem?  The best con game is one marked by misdirection and keeping one’s ultimate objective well hidden so when the “Mark” gets taken he/she never knew what hit them.

Al Gore knew most conservatives would support nuclear power, however in doing do, the liberals would automatically take the contrary position.  I submit that Al Gore consciously supported the Kyoto treaty but didn’t sign it because he needed an obvious rallying point for conservatives to oppose AGW by making it a transfer of wealth scheme.  In this light, Al Gore is the consummate ring master.  In the end, Al Gore knew enough discontinuities would arise to disqualify wind and solar as a viable alternative to fossil fuels, leaving only nuclear power as the answer.  The use of the discontinuities basically locks a person into the false dichotomy fallacy of choosing between the lesser of two evils.  In this way, the ring master presents the choices but the “Mark” thinks they are the one making the choice when in fact it was made for them.

I submit this about liberals in general, and Al Gore in particular, they are passive-aggressives who’s chief tool is manipulation and deception to achieve their goals because the nature of the passive-aggressive is to avoid outright confrontation in the fear of loosing.  The best way to stack the deck to guarantee a win is to deny the opponent the option to say NO.  In Al Gore’s case, he carefully and meticulously stacked the deck to take away the option of NO to nuclear power in form of AGW.   Strangely and perversely, I might just approve of what he did in an ends justifies the means scenario.

Some interesting reading to support my thinking:

Armand Hammer connection

http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a38c809001b91.htm

Al Gore may be a Trojan Horse for nuclear power, if his record as Vice President is a guide. When people were wondering if he had even written his book Earth In The Balance, he was pushing nuclear power plant deals in China. In a public conversation I had with him before his book came out, he responded to my "What about plutonium’s half-life of 240,000 years?" by saying only, "I’m sorry! I’m sorry!" (turns out the figure is 24,000 years) Gore may sincerely believe in nuclear power to cut down on carbon emissions, but we don’t really need the damn energy, even with population growth - unless you believe in crass materialism for a world of clueless consumers.

And now the final piece, converting environmentalists and anti-nuke people of old to the cause, notice how AGW is the central implied reason:  http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2007/09/long_now_the_ar.html

When you feel you have to walk on eggshells to avoid problems with the MSM you are being codependent, the cure is to stomp on the eggshells

D, Very, very

D,

Very, very compelling.  And I agree, the tactics of the left have, as I have stated before, been to "discredit, deflect, detract and distract".  Although your post reads like a blurb for a Michael Chriton book I think there is probably some validity.  Now, if those that have fallen for his 'slight of hand' caught wind of this, I feel his AGW house of cards would come crumbling down around him exposing all that is false with AGW and the true science to climate change.  Suddenly those die hard environmentalists who have blindly supported him---and have forgotten their original cause(s) [i.e. opposition to nuclear], would turn around and bury him.  One could only hope....

Michael Crichton, funny you

Michael Crichton, funny you should mention him since he in essence reverse engineers a plot using factual information of the period to make his stories realistic.  Sometimes, when we are too close to the problem, fighting in the trenches as it were, we fail to see the grand design.  So the question is, have I connected the dots (line of argument) to an actual conspiracy or have I just laid the plot for a great book and movie???  What is the truth here????  What are the relevant facts and which ones are tossed aside as not relevant?  You be the judge.  Are you musing nervously?  Muhuhaha

When you feel you have to walk on eggshells to avoid problems with the MSM you are being codependent, the cure is to stomp on the eggshells

Dscott

Somewhere in my memory but not real clear I recall that Global Warming was first used in Great Britain by Margaret Thatcher to push nuclear power and thwart the coal industry's labor problems.

I think Al actually picked up the dog and pony show there.

How about this; let's hope

How about this; let's hope you have uncovered a vast conspiracy that outs Gore and the AGW movement and THEN you could write a book about the events leading up to the conspiracy.  To finish up and seal the deal you could then make a DOCUMENTARY out of the whole shooting match!  It IS the in thing to do ya' know!

Follow The Money

Follow the money: to whom besides a “non-profit organization that is devoted to changing public opinion,” did Al Gore donate the $1.8 million dollar Nobel Prize purse? Who is the Alliance for Climate Protection? Perhaps not coincidentally, Al Gore is the founder and chairman of the alliance. Gee, I just happen to have a handy § 501(c)(3) organization, all set up to take the money. The facts are incontrovertible: http://theseedsof9-1...

Very good, its always

Very good, its always "follow the money" to find the truth.

I've basically given up trying to explain this scheme to otherwise rational, educated people.

I know a teacher who did not know what percent of the atmosphere was CO2. Their answer was 20-30% . I did not laugh, but began explaining the correct amounts of oxygen, nitrogen etc to them. I was told I was wrong and to send them a link to prove it. I did send a very easy to understand link with bar charts. Somewhere on that page was the date 2006. The reply from someone who is teaching our children was "thats an old link back to 2006 data, everything has changed in the last year".

I'm throwing in the towel.

The Dirty Little Secret

The "greens" and the other AGW alarmists think "Big Oil" is just that and that they are too big and are holding the world hostage to oil. They think by pushing hard for all these various initiatives to reduce or eliminate carbon emissions, that "Big Oil" will be"put in it's place." The dirty little secret they don't know is "Big Oil" is in reality "Big Energy." Exxon-Mobil, BP, etc., will still be here long after most of us are dead and buried and AGW has been long forgotten.

Just my $0.02
