Oops: NBC's Andrea Mitchell Tweets That U.S. Entered World War II 100 Years Ago

July 17th, 2017 6:30 AM

Friday, July 14 was the 228th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille prison in France in 1789. Bastille Day is a national holiday in France. NBC News noted the anniversary in a tweet.

Longtime network correspondent Andrea Mitchell provided the comic relief in a tweeted Saturday evening reply, claiming that Friday marked "the 100th anniversary of US entering WWII."

Mitchell's tweet has been up for over 24 hours, so she must be okay with it (HT Twitchy):

It would be natural to believe that Mitchell meant to refer to World War I instead of World War II — except that the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I was April 6:

On April 6, 1917, the U.S. joined its allies--Britain, France, and Russia--to fight in World War I. Under the command of Major General John J. Pershing, more than 2 million U.S. soldiers fought on battlefields in France.

Thus, how Mitchell came up with the idea of her tweet remains a complete mystery.

What is not a mystery is Mitchell's political bias. As over 600 previous NewsBusters posts demonstrate, she is the quintessential "Democrat(ic) operative with (a) byline," a term frequently and accurately employed by Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds and Ed Driscoll.

Even among that cadre, Mitchell is in a class by herself, as the following video from October 2016, three weeks before Election Day, demonstrates:

As I noted in a related NewsBusters post:

Clinton traveling press secretary Nick Merrill was seen typing something into his cellphone. He then reached over and showed the phone's display to Mitchell. After looking at it and making eye contact with Mitchell, Merrill pulled his arm back with what appeared to be a smug grin.

A short time later, Mitchell asked Mrs. Clinton the following softball question:

ANDREA MITCHELL: How did you feel, how did you feel when he (Donald Trump, in the third presidential debate) said, y'know "nasty woman, nasty woman," and "you're a puppet," and the issue of Vladimir Putin?

Any reasonable observer would believe it overwhelmingly likely that Mitchell was fed a question to ask Mrs. Clinton by a campaign operative, and that, as a Democratic operative with a byline, she willingly complied.

Like so many other fellow operatives, Mitchell has gone further over the radical edge since Donald Trump's election. Here are just a few examples from NewsBusters posts in recent months:
