Ready for 2024? Here’s One Final Look Back at 2023’s Most-Read Items on NewsBusters

December 31st, 2023 2:53 PM

2024 is bound to be not only one of the most monumental years in American history, it ventures to be among the most chaotic. So, before we dive head first into 2024 at midnight, let’s look back one last time at 2023 to look at what stories you, the readers, visited the most on NewsBusters.

As always, we can’t thank you enough for not only your readership, but also financial support. Amid a litany of options in conservative media, so many of you make NewsBusters part of your daily media diet. For that, we’re beyond grateful.

To see past year-end top-ten lists, follow the links for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

1. February 13 — Daily Show Creator Has Profane Meltdown Over Gutfeld Super Bowl 'King of Late Night' Ad

Clocking in at number one, our P.J. Gladnick joined the pile-on of Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead absolutely losing her noodle over the alleged crime of Fox News Channel host Greg Gutfeld having a Super Bowl ad dubbing him the “new king of late night.”

Winstead tore into this as some affront to humanity while speaking to gadfly Dean Obeidallah, saying Gutfeld isn’t “funny” even though “there’s an audience” of “fucking shitty people” “out there for shit like that”.

“You know what else I think is gross? Golden Corral,” she added.

2. January 25 — WATCH: Speaker McCarthy DEMOLISHES PBS Reporter During Wild Presser

Then-analyst Kevin Tober had the story for us that had conservative media buzzing as Speaker Kevin McCarthy absolutely schooled Lisa DeJardins of taxpayer-funded PBS after the House voted to remove California Democrats Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee.

Instead of debating the merits of removing them, Desjardins engaged in whataboutism by repeatedly invoking then-Congressman George Santos (R-NY).

At one point, he blasted Dejardins for not letting him “answer…your question”, adding “you don’t get to determine whether I answer your question or not, okay?”

3. January 9 — ABC Appalled Armed Robber Got Stopped By Armed Good Samaritan

Crime was a massive story throughout the year, so it wasn’t a surprise when a case of the liberal media defending lawlessness made the list. Associate editor Nick Fondacaro wrote this one up as hoax artist John Quiñones bemoaned someone chose to exercise their Second Amendment right in defending themselves and a Houston-area restaurant from a would-be robber.

4. January 25 — Column: NPR Drops Bombs on the 'Hard Right Republicans In Congress'

Always a target for NewsBusters, executive editor Tim Graham made NPR the focus of his syndicated column on this day, calling out one of the oldest tricks in the book of media bias following the prolonged fight for House Republicans to elect a speaker: labeling.

Graham noted that, in one segment alone during NPR’s Fresh Air, host Terry Gross used “far right” nine times in an hour with a guest from The New York Times using “far right” six times and “hard right” 17 times in a 44-minute interview.

5. April 26 — Tucker Breaks His Silence on Twitter After Firing, Hints at Return

Tober also had a ratings hit of a blog chronicling the surprise return of Tucker Carlson to social media two days after he was fired by the Fox News Channel.

Carlson posted a two-minute video and blasted the media as well as both political parties for colluding on “consensus” for “what benefits them…to shut down any conversation about it.” Since then, he launched a show on X (formerly known as Twitter) and, earlier this month, the Tucker Carlson Network.

6. April 30 — NBC's Todd Claims Scientific Research Proves There's More Than Two Genders

Making his third and final appearance on the list, Tober had this howler of liberal hackery as then-Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd repeatedly berated 2024 GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy over basic biology.

Todd, of course, chose to defy basic science and argue that gender is “a spectrum” rather than a binary choice of male or female when a baby’s formed in their mother’s womb.

7. June 29 — Election Interference! MRC Poll Finds Most CNN & MSNBC Viewers Don’t Know About Biden Scandals and Bad News

NewsBusters has spent years keeping our readers up to date on what feels like a never-ending conga line of Hunter Biden scandals and new claims of Biden family malfeasance. All the while, few have received mention in the liberal media.

In turn, we decided to conduct a poll of CNN and MSNBC viewers to see what they knew about the Bidens. Spoiler alert: not much!

8. March 6 — Comedian Reduces John Heilemann to Repeatedly Blubbering 'Non-Responsive'

Gladnick made his second appearance on the list with this hilarious beatdown by actor/comedian Russell Brand on HBO’s Real Time on longtime MSNBC analyst and liberal tool John Heilemann.

Brand lashed out at Heilemann by telling him “[i]t is disingenuous to claim that the biases that are exhibited on Fox News are any different from the biases exhibited on MSNBC” and even taunted him for “think[ing]” he could “sit within the castle of MSNBC throwing rocks at Fox News is ludicrous. Make MSNBC better. Make MSNBC great again!”

9. February 17 — The 10 Most Absurd Claims From Hulu’s ‘1619 Project’ Series

MRC Culture contributing writer Stephanie Hamill sat through the hours and hours that make up Hulu’s miniseries based on the book by far-left charlatan Nikole Hannah-Jones from The New York Times so none of us had to.

Whether it’s the absurdity of comparing Amazon warehouses to African-American slaves picking cotton to arguing democracy only has  meaning to white people because self-governance equals racism, Hamill really took one for the team.

10. February 10 — Surprise, Surprise! Soros-Tied Disinfo Group Is Reportedly ‘Blacklisting’ Conservative Media

Rounding out the list was Free Speech America’s Catherine Salgado sharing with our readers one of many bombshells this year from the great Gabe Kaminsky of the Washington Examiner. Kaminsky, who had a series of follow-ups, revealed the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), a group of British leftists hellbent on censoring conservative media through advertiser intimidation, had backing from – of course – George Soros.
