Jimmy Kimmel: I Stay Away from Making Hillary Jokes Because She’s ‘Boring’

September 22nd, 2016 2:17 PM

At the onset of his monologue on Wednesday, ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel offered a rather lame excuse for why he sticks almost exclusively to joking about Donald Trump and not Democratic presidential opponent Hillary Clinton because she’s too “boring” to be made fun of.

If that head-shaking moment wasn’t enough, CBS’s Late Show host Stephen Colbert offered a quip via video that Gollum from Lord of the Rings was assisting Clinton in her debate preparations by playing Trump and whining about “wicked, tricksy immigrants.”

Going first to Kimmel, the liberal comic lamented that he’s been coming across “a lot of comments online from Donald Trump supporters asking why you always make jokes about Donald Trump and not about Hillary Clinton and it's true.”

Kimmel added that he does indeed “make more jokes about Donald Trump than Hillary Clinton” and while there’s “no question about it, but that's just because Hillary Clinton is boring, okay?”

Before moving onto a litany of jokes about Trump on various topics, Kimmel sought to defend his statement: “I'll give you an example. Hillary Clinton today was in — spent the day in Orlando at a youth center talking about the economy, yawn Whereas Donald Trump today visited a African-American church with boxing promoter Don King.”

Meanwhile, Colbert noted Trump’s ever-changing policy stances and explained that in context of Clinton’s debate prep as he introduced the Gollum clip:

Now, normally candidates prepare by doing mock debates against a stand-in for their opponent, but who could portray the two side of Donald Trump? I know of only one person who could capture both trumps at the same time, and we have obtained exclusive footage of him prepping Secretary Clinton.

A voice impersonating Gollum was then heard screaming with footage from one of the Lord of the Rings films as the audience laughed and applauded: “Mexicans stole our jobs. Sneaky little immigrants. Wicked, tricksy immigrants. Immigrants are my friends. Build...the...wall.”

“Trump is a lot like Gollum — both of them have trouble holding on to a ring for too long. Now, don't you boo Gollum,” Colbert concluded.
