A University of Virginia dean took action Tuesday against Rolling Stone’s now-infamous gang-rape story for its “false” and dishonorable statements. It’s a serious claim considering UVA is all about honor – for every test, a UVA student is required to write the honor code up top. (Full disclosure: I’m an alumna.)

In response to the Rolling Stone Nov. 2014 article entitled A Rape on Campus: A Brutal Assault and Struggle for Justice at UVA, UVA dean Nicole Eramo filed a defamation lawsuit asking for more than $7.85 million on May 12 against magazine Rolling Stone, writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely, and publisher Wenner Media.

As some words are losing their “bad” meanings, others are rising to take their place, according to comedian Larry Wilmore.

During Comedy Central’s May 11 The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, the host proclaimed that the once-bad connotations associated with the words “black” and “gay” now apply to the word “Muslim.”

Pro-choice celebrities took to Twitter this Mother’s Day to (ironically?) celebrate life.

While they often bash attempts to defund Planned Parenthood or restrict abortion, pro-choice actresses acknowledged the value of their mothers – mothers that gave them life – this Mother’s Day.

Abortion is making the rounds on network television again – and the media are all for it.

Now in its fourth season, ABC political drama Scandal aired its 21st episode, A Few Good Women, on May 7. The show starring Kerry Washington, featured a military woman who became pregnant from rape – and her 30-second long abortion scene. Rather than condemning the rape, some in the media, including US Weekly and The Wall Street Journal, expanded their stories to praise the “groundbreaking” and “powerful” abortion scene.

American Sniper’s Chris Kyle is once again under media attack – this time from former RT anchor Abby Martin.

Last week, Abby Martin took to her Instagram account to attack Texan war hero Chris Kyle. “Rocking a one of a kind F*ck #ChrisKyle creation,” she wrote in a caption accompanying a picture of her wearing a shirt with the words, “F*ck Chris Kyle!”

Broadcast networks have taken their cues from The New York Times, except when it publishes stories about babies that they don’t like.

A study released Wednesday by The New England Journal of Medicine documented thousands of premature births to discover a small number of babies born at 22 weeks, with medical treatment available to them, survived with few health implications. The findings that could “affect the abortion debate” landed on the front page of the May 7 New York Times and garnered attention from NBC’s Today. Other media, like ABC and CBS, stayed silent during their morning and evening news shows.

In a bizarre move, a Huffington Post blogger is wishing women a “Happy Mother’s Day!” – by calling for an end to mothers’ “unwanted” babies.

In a May 6 Huffington Post piece, blogger Kristine Holmgren argued for “No More Angry Mothers; Embracing Accessible Abortion and Affordable Contraception.” In it, she announced that before “safe, affordable, accessible abortion” existed, most mothers were “angry mothers.” To prevent future “angry mothers,” Holmgren declared that women should “protect our liberties,” including “our birthright” to abortion this Mother’s Day.

When it comes to politics, abortion is one of Hollywood’s preferred topics – as actress Kathleen Turner recently demonstrated.

In a recent piece for the abortion-happy site RH Reality Check, Kathleen Turner (Romancing the StonePrizzi's Honor) deemed barriers to abortion as “fundamentally wrong.” The Golden Globe award-winning actress called out “anti-choice” and personhood groups that aim to “end abortion rights in our country.”

An unborn baby’s value depends on whether he or she is wanted, according to recent media reports on two cases of brain-dead pregnant women.

Doctors delivered 32-week-old Angel in April after keeping his brain-dead mother, 22-year-old Karla Perez, on life support for 54 days. Last November, 33-year-old Marlise Muñoz became brain-dead while 14 weeks pregnant and was taken off life support at the urging of her family while still pregnant – at 23 weeks. Pro-abortion media like Cosmo, that had supported Muñoz, celebrated Perez. AP and NBC reflected whether the baby was wanted or not in language – referring to Perez’s unborn child as a “baby” and Muñoz’s as a “fetus.”

Birth control shouldn’t be controlled, according to Amy Schumer’s new ad.

Amy Schumer’s “Ask if birth control is right for you” ad premiered during the third season of Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer on April 21 – but is just starting to go viral on social media. The ad follows Schumer as she asks everyone from her boss to strangers on the street for permission to buy birth control, and concludes with a little boy easily obtaining a gun because “that’s your right.”

The pro-abortion media crowd is embracing new ally in their fight: Satanists.

“Mary” from Missouri is hoping to bypass her state’s 72-hour abortion waiting period by citing “sincerely held religious beliefs” – as a Satanist. The Friendly Atheist blog broke the story of how the Satanic Temple plans to aid a woman it calls Mary who believes in its “tenets.” The media followed suit, from a Think Progress editor expressing “love,” to a Salon editor concluding, “[R]eligious exemption laws are maybe cool when Satanists use them to get abortions.”

Baltimore experienced terrorism – but not from abroad, according to Morgan Freeman.

In an April 30 Newsweek interview, Morgan Freeman supported the recent Baltimore riots following the death of Freddie Gray. The Academy-Award winning actor blamed “police terrorism” for the “unrest in Baltimore,” and backed the protestors.

Young women, do you want to attain your dreams and seize your opportunities? Then snuffing out an innocent life may be just the thing for you!

In an April 28 piece for TIME, Cecile Richards, president of taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood, argued, “We Need to Talk – Really Talk – About Abortion.” In it, her “talk” focused on how abortion is “key to women’s opportunity” and an outlet to “pursue their dreams.” Richards praised the media – her megaphone – for their efforts to blast abortion-positive messaging.

In volatile, uncertain moments like the rioting in Baltimore, most people inevitably say to themselves, “I wonder what that guy from Grey’s Anatomy thinks of all this” or, “I bet my favorite hip hop star has a thoughtful take on what’s happening.”

Well, no, they don’t. But that rarely stops celebrities from sharing anyway.

Same-sex “marriage” activists aren’t happy with the media – because, as some argued, there isn’t enough support.

On April 28, the United States Supreme Court heard a controversial case, Obergefell v. Hodges, which questioned the constitutionality of same-sex "marriage." During the arguments, hundreds of LGBT supporters of the case gathered outside. We asked them how they think the media treat gay “marriage."

ABC, CBS and NBC refused to cover this year’s March for Marriage – but we at the MRC have the footage they won’t show.

In the run up to Supreme Court arguments, The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) hosted its third annual March for Marriage in front of the Capitol on April 25. The event, a self-described “demonstration to the media, opinion leaders, legislators and jurists that a majority of Americans still stand for marriage as it has been traditionally and historically defined” drew 15,000 traditional marriage supporters.
