Besides gay rights, Shameless, Showtime’s hit liberal show, has yet another social justice cause to champion. This time it's equal pay.
NBC’s Superstore leans in on sexism and falls flat on its face. On Thursday night’s episode, appropriately titled “District Manager,” after Jeff’s departure to be with Mateo, it is announced that for the first time Cloud 9 will have a female district manager, which leads the more liberal-minded employees to rush to celebrate the hire.
All three major broadcast networks took time during their post-Oscars stories on Monday night to mention actress Patricia Arquette’s calls for “wage equality” and “equal rights for women,” but it was the CBS Evening News that went one step further by devoting a whole segment to the topic and used loaded statistics to craft a one-sided argument to prop up Arquette’s rant. Anchor Scott Pelley noted her as one example of how award winners “used the national stage as a soapbox” and gushed that “she has point” when it comes to the issue of what men and women earn.
Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski has never been one to hide her partisan liberal leanings, and it showed in her interview with President Obama which aired on Monday’s show. While Brzezinski started the interview with some tough foreign policy questions, it lost steam later on as she voiced admiration for the President on equal pay for women, and encouraged him to do more on the issue.
Brzezinski could not contain herself, declaring herself a “champion” of the cause, and begging the President for more government intervention: “Do you think that there will be a day in our lifetime where women are paid equally across the board? And do we need the government to make that happen?” [MP3 audio here; video below]
