During Thursday afternoon’s MSNBC Live, host Katy Tur interviewed two of the network’s favorite Republicans, Never Trumpers Elise Jordan and Steve Schmidt. Tur pointed out that Jordan and Schmidt are the hosts of a new podcast called “Words Matter.” Schmidt went on a tirade against the current Republican Party, which he called “the party of Trump,” going so far as to say that “it needs to burn to the ground.”
Ever want to see the TV news equivalent of a bitter crazy person shouting into the wind? Well, you’re in luck because that’s what MSNBC’s Deadline: White House is like on a daily basis and Tuesday’s installment didn’t disappoint. The assembled guests and faux Republicans bemoaned the lack of passion among elected Democrats and Republicans to impeach President Trump, asserted that the 2020 election will be the most important one since 1864, and engaged in character assassination against House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Occasionally, MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews has provided us with moments of humor and levity (though most of the time at his own expense) and Wednesday was no exception as he took time to mock anti-Trump Republicans and faux Republicans pleading with voters to back Democrats in November.
Appearing as a guest on Wednesday's The 11th Hour with Brian Williams, MSNBC contributor Steve Schmidt claimed that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell "delegitimized" Justice Anthony Kennedy's seat on the U.S. Supreme Court -- and the Court itself -- as he reacted to the selection of Judge Brett Kavanaugh as Kennedy's replacement. He also repeated a debunked claim that "Kennedy's son is Trump's banker at Deutsche Bank" -- a claim which was even disputed by his liberal MSNBC colleague, Stephanie Ruhle.
During Wednesday’s edition of Deadline: White House, the show's Democratic and faux Republican panelists were not having a good day, complaining about Justice Kennedy’s decision to retire from the Supreme Court, which means that President Trump will get to pick his successor.
Just one day after NBC News Political Analyst Steve Schmidt took to MSNBC to trash the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Trump’s travel ban as the “fulfillment of Osama Bin Laden’s vision” of America, the ex-Republican strategist had the audacity to show up on NBC’s Today show Wednesday to denounce the “politics of incitement.”
Former Republican and MSNBC political analyst Steve Schmidt has been suffering near daily meltdowns over the Trump administration for some time, but the last week saw a level of desperation. On Tuesday’s Deadline: White House, Schmidt vilely suggested that the Supreme Court’s travel ban ruling for the Trump administration “was a fantastic fulfillment of Osama bin Laden's vision” for America in causing “a war of civilization...between the West and 1 billion Muslims.”
On Monday's Deadline: White House, MSNBC contributor Steve Schmidt railed against President Donald Trump and his supporters as the former Republican-turned-Democrat complained that the Trump "faction" is "trying to impose systematic cruelty upon all the rest of us," and even threw in a Hitler reference as he invoked "Munich circa 1928." Even though the former John McCain campaign strategist last week announced via Twitter that "I renounce my membership in the Republican Party" and pledged to vote for Democrats in the future, he was still credited on screen as a "Republican strategist."
The hosts of Morning Joe are angry once again. During a discussion on Tuesday of the policy of separating the children of illegals at the border, Joe Scarborough decided to play Bible expert and wondered if Mike Pence cuts out sections of the Bible (in the style of Thomas Jefferson).
Condemning Roseanne Barr’s ugly, racist tweet from Tuesday morning about former Obama administration official Valerie Jarrett should be relatively simple. However, the panel on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House took things further. In the show’s B-Block, the panel linked the fired ABC star’s comments to Sarah Palin on the 2008 campaign trail, “borderline evil” people in the White House “hurting this country,” how “white people have lost their damn minds,” and Trump supporters are “moral monsters that are running around this country.”
On Sunday’s installment of Showtime’s The Circus, CNN Tonight host Don Lemon was profiled and he lashed out at President Trump as a “racist” and insinuated that Trump’s criticism of him was racially-based. Thankfully, the show also profiled our friends at the Daily Caller and, to the show’s credit, the interviews allowed for Daily Caller personality to offer some excellent points about liberal media bias.
While bemoaning during Friday’s Deadline: White House about the lack of decency and civility in light of White House staffer Kelly Sadler’s ugly comment about Republican Senator John McCain (AZ), MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace joked to White House correspondent Kristen Welker about choking White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
