Picture that one weird, older uncle you might have. You know, the one who appears to be losing his grip on reality as he sits on your back porch sipping craft beer, puffing a funny-smelling cigarette, and rambling on about how Bernie Sanders’ political musings are the answers America needs right now. That’s basically how actor Danny DeVito has been coming off lately.
Entertainment writers need a 12-step program to cure their addiction to late night TV. In the Age of Trump outlets like Deadline.com, TheWrap.com and even the Associated Press feverishly churn out stories based on what late night comics say. Just jokes? Not to these smitten journalists. More specifically, it’s every slam uttered against President Trump and the GOP. Although said outlets are so addicted to late night fare now they regurgitate apolitical bits.
During the Wednesday night edition of CNN’s Cuomo PrimeTime, host Chris Cuomo joined the ranks of many other liberals who have interviewed far-left heartthrob Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the self-avowed socialist who upset incumbent Joe Crowley during the Democratic primary in New York on June 26. However, the CNN anchor behaved far differently than those other people when he asked how she would “pay" for any new programs because of the “sticker shock” additional health care might create.
In a Comedy Central promo, Daily Show host Trevor Noah is shown lecturing Republicans about their opposition to socialism, claiming concerns over the radical left-wing ideology are “all in you mind.” During a recent interview with socialist New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Noah dismissed the term as just a political “label.”
HuffPost says baby boomers panicked by the popularity of socialism, just need to “relax.”
Senior political economy reporter Zach Carter declared “Socialism is Good Now,” on HuffPost July 29. At the same time, actual socialism was collapsing in both Venezuela and Nicaragua.
NBC's Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd has an ongoing conflict of interest in political coverage with his wife, Kristian Denny Todd, whose Maverick Mail & Strategies firm does direct-marketing campaigns for Democrats. A search of the campaign-finance database Open Secrets shows Mrs. Todd has donated $13,250 to federal candidates so far in this election cycle, all of them Democrats.
For the current generation, sometimes referred to as millennials, it appears one thing is more seductive than sex -- and that's socialism.Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and 28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, winner of a New York Democratic primary, are the old and new faces of socialist America. Their platforms, it appears, hinge on the concept of shared wealth, in other words, handing out free stuff to just about everyone.
Earlier this week, our friends at CRTV channel found a unique way to cover the midterm contests by creating a satirical video made (using clips from a real, PBS interview) to appear like conservative personality Allie Stuckey had interviewed well-known socialist Democratic House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
On All In with Chris Hayes Tuesday night, Hayes and a panel of guests discussed Democratic candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and concluded that, in the end, her specific socialist policies don’t matter. After misrepresenting Republican positions, the panel arrived at the conclusion that perception of Ocasio-Cortez trumped her lack of substantive proposals.
The View continued its pathetic pandering to Democrat politicians and officials today, after having Cynthia Nixon and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the show in the past few weeks for softball interviews. Former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett appeared on Wednesday’s show for another friendly conversation, where host Joy Behar lamented that Trump was going to destroy the world and it was imperative that Obama condemn him publicly.
During his show on Tuesday night, CBS host Stephen Colbert took it upon himself to sing Democratic Congressional Candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s praises. And he topped it all off by claiming Jesus was a socialist. Ocasio-Cortez is a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, and darling of the Democratic Party. It’s no wonder Colbert has been quick to support her, despite her being endorsed by the New York City chapter of the radical left-wing group, the Democratic Socialists of America.
On Wednesday’s edition of New Day, co-host John Berman conducted a segment on the future of the Democratic Party with former press secretary for Bernie Sanders, Symone Sanders, and former Hillary Clinton campaign manager, Robby Mook. The segment was based on former FBI Director James Comey’s tweet warning Democrats not to “rush to the socialist left” in reaction to Trump. Berman asked Sanders if Comey had a point. And her response proved his concern.
