In Friday’s edition of liberal media double standards, the CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News saw no reason to cover new audio out of Nebraska in which a state Democratic Party official used an expletive to proclaim he’s “glad” Republican Congressman Steve Scalise (La.) “got shot” on June 14.
So much for those calls for civility in the wake of the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise. On Thursday, Democratic Senator and progressive hero Elizabeth Warren disgustingly accused the Republicans of funding their health care bill with “blood money” and “paying for tax cuts with American lives.” Surely the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) networks would condemn such language in this new era of civility right? Well not exactly.
In the wake of the Democrats' humiliating defeat in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District Tuesday night, members of the party were in a rush to cast blame on someone. And for many Democrats that blame fell on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Even with the loud calls for new leadership, CBS News decided to omit them from their reporting Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, ABC’s coverage simply brushed over them in a 40-second-long news brief. NBC was the only network to give the blaming serious consideration.
High in the sky over the Baltic Sea on Tuesday, a United States Air Force spy plane was subjected to extremely dangerous maneuvers by a Russian fighter pilot. According to reports, at one point the Russian jet was roughly five feet away from the wing tip of the U.S. plane. The provocative encounter was reported by both ABC and NBC during their evening news broadcasts later that evening. But on CBS Evening News, not a word was spoken about the incident.
Americans were appalled Thursday to learn the medical condition North Korea left American Otto Warmbier in while he was in their custody. In a press conference, his father, Fred Warmbier, had stark criticism for the Obama administration. “Do I think the past administration could have done more? I think the results speak for themselves,” he said. And during their evening broadcasts, ABC and CBS ignored his comments while NBC downplayed them.
The Washington, D.C. area and political junkies around the country were left in a state of shock Wednesday, in the wake of the horrific attack on Congressional Republicans at a baseball field. As would be expected, the shooting dominated the evening broadcasts of the Big Three Networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC). But in a pleasant twist, all three avoided pushing the liberal talking points for gun-control, while at the same time, welcoming President Trump’s unifying address.
The defamation case Reuters called a “trial of a lifetime,” between Beef Products Inc. and ABC over the network’s coverage of its lean finely texture beef product continued with an amazing allegation. The network news also continued ignoring the trial, in spite of depositions of ABC employees which were shared with the court the week of June 12.
President Donald Trump declared he would bring coal jobs back to the U.S. — first on the campaign trail and then after he was elected. Network news media reacted with a mix of skepticism and criticism. ABC and NBC evening news programs both disputed Trump’s claims and then ignored the opening of a new coal mine weeks later. In contrast, CBS Weekend News reported on the new mine.
On top of the high-profile testimony of Attorney General Jeff Sessions before the Senate Intelligence Committee Tuesday, the media was swarming over a rumor President Trump was looking to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller. “Is the President now considering firing special prosecutor Robert Mueller who is now overseeing the Russia investigation,” speculated ABC Anchor David Muir during World News Tonight. All of the Big Three Networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) pushed the rumor despite the fact that their source admits he never spoke with the President and thinks he wouldn’t do it.
President Trump found himself, once again, at the receiving end of a high-profile lawsuit involving his business dealings on Monday. The Attorneys General of both the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia filed a suit claiming the Present was in violation of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, which states that an office holder cannot receive payments or gifts from a foreign power. The Big Three Networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) highlighted the suit while they openly hoped that it would allow them to see Trump’s tax returns.
There was civil unrest in Russia Monday, as anti-corruption protestors took to the streets all across the country during a national holiday celebration. Roughly 1,500 people were arrested for gathering to denounce their government. The White House came out strong and condemned Russia for cracking down on the peaceful protestors. All of the Big Three Networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) reported on the mass arrests during their evening broadcasts, but they all ignored the White House’s condemnation of the Russian government.
In addition to his testimony about President Trump on Thursday, former FBI Director James Comey testified on the suspicious actions of Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch during the 2016 campaign. Comey recalled how Lynch told him to refer to the Clinton e-mail investigation as something other than what it was. When it came to the coverage from the Big Three Networks, ABC ignored it while CBS and NBC stepping in.
